My kingdom for a tattoo
Anyone have one? I'm really thinking about getting one on the small of my back.
Well, not that anything is small on me, but you catch my drift, hm?
I did a henna tattoo this weekend there, and while it's not perfect, I do like it.
The only thing is, I'd like a real one but I'm too chicken. The pain, I think, would be excruciating. Although, I know people who've had it done and they say it wasn't bad. My hairdresser said "If you can have six babies without meds, you can certainly have a tattoo!" I'm not certain that I follow that line of reasoning. My niece had the tops of her feet done and said it was a bitch to do.
So, if you have one, did it hurt? A lot or a manageable level? Do you regret having it done? What would you do again?
And, am I totally weird for thinking about it? I mean, for the love of Pete, I'm your typical soccer mom, with an atypical amount of kids. Would that be too weird?

if you get one, I'll get one....

I have 2.
One I got on my ankle at the tender age of 22. V. small.
One just above my butt. I got 3 years ago. I designed it myself - it's all 4 boys initials.
Personally I think they hurt A LOT! But like having 4 c-sections - I went back and did it again. And would love to do it yet again. I say go for it!

I think the pain is correlated with the amt of padding underneath. So tops of feet would hurt a lot.

I have one..It is on my upper thigh and I got it when I was 18..Now at 29, I regret it everytime I see it yet, want to get another one...Mine didn't hurt that much...Like Jamie said it has to do with how much padding you have and I am not lacking on my thighs!!

I don't have one, don't want one and don't care much for them. I can't think of anything I would want to brand my skin with in perpetuity. I too think the pain would be horrible. Also, I don't like to think about stretching my skin like silly putty to show my future grandchildren what my tattoo used to look like!!

I say don't do it.
I know very fine people who have them but I swear the first thing that pops in my head (and other people's heads too) is "trashy".
My sister has one on her chest and my dad FREAKED out.
"I was in the DAMN NAVY and never got one!"
It is your choice but I figured I would weigh in.

I have thought of getting one as I have gotten older. Never wanted one when younger and had more stamina to withstand pain
:-D
Now, I just think I will always think about it but never do it. I see them on all kinds of women, and none have struck me as *wow* I gotta do that...
JMO ;-)

I've got a colorful gecko above my ankle, about 5 inches long. It hurt so much that after he did the outline and we took a break, I didn't care if it was ugly, I just wanted to go home!
My friend let me hold her hand and while I was trying to be brave, eventually I ended up almost crawling up her arm trying to get away from the needles.
But yeah... it was worth it... sure.

I want one, but in a place not noticable, no matter WHERE I have it. But, I am too scared of the pain to do it, and I was raised that real LADIES never got them. So, I'll probably never do it. But, you just need to weigh the issues of pain and wether you really want it enough.
(ambigious, no?)

I say don't do it. I'm with Mary, in that most people think it is trashy. I guess you could always get a rose on your breast, then wait for it to become a long stem with time!!!!

I'm getting my bellybutton pierced... :-O So go for it!

You had six kids withOUT pain medication?! Wow. Sorry... what was the question again? Oh right. Do whatever you want to that body - it's earned it!

I want one, have it picked out, just waiting for hubby to get his first. I promised him that I'd wait for him so I'm waiting, waiting, waiting...Go for it!

Not me and I don't have the desire for it. I have been taught since a child it is defacing my body, which I am to regard as a Temple.

I would have to say that if you are inclined to get it done, it would be seriously fun to do it if only for the purpose of being able to dazzle people with something they won't expect! (not that you'd be showing it, just the knowledge that you did it)
I love being an enigma. It's very fun.

I have one on my upper arm and it didn't hurt at all. Not the tiniest bit. But that's all muscle, so might not be entirely comparable - I hear that tattoos tend to hurt over bone or kidney, so the small of your back might not be the best place to start.

Great picture of you!
I have heard, if you get a tatoo close to a bony area of your body, the pain is pretty bad. If you get one in a fleshy area, it is not so bad.
I am assuming that means that I could cover my entire body with tatoos and it would not be so bad. But, I am still too chicken.
Good luck to you!

I have one on the small of my back. It's the serenity symbol in Chinese, because God knows, I need a constant reminder that I'm trying to achieve serenity, especially b/c I'm an aspiring MTTSM.
I like it, and it's pretty private unless I'm wearing low riders, which is rarer the older I get. I would like to get butterfly wings (small ones) on my shoulder blades.

I've considered getting one a few times, but so far nothing. I can't think of anything I like enough to be sure I'll still like it in 50+ years.

Wow, Mrs. Fun - that is really beautiful, sexy even :D Have thought more on this and think I'd rather go through pain to get a breast lift :-)

ewww gross. Don't do it.

I have four (and tons in the planning phase) tattoos. One on each shoulder, one in the small of my back, and one on top of my foot. The foot hurt worse than any of the others and my lower back was second place. The shoulders weren't too bad, but my left one hurt worse because I was thinner than when I got my right one done.
However, if you're doing it for yourself, don't get it in the small of your back. You're going to want it somewhere you can see it. I love my tatts on my back, but I love my foot the most because I can see it on a daily basis.
My next tatt is going to be a ring of fire under my wedding ring. It won't be something you can see unless you're really looking close (once I can put my rings back on) and it will really mean something to me (that was the song played when we made our grand entrance and we've just gone through a ring of fire in our marriage). Anyways, enough of a chapter in the life of a total stranger. ;)
Go for it! It really isn't that bad and I'll tell you, you feel high afterwards because of all the adrenaline and endorphins rushing through your body. Be careful though, they are like potato chips...that's why hubby and I have a bank account strictly for tattoos.

I think you should do it for all of us soccer moms who have fantasized about it for years but will probably never go through with it.
Lead the way...
