Topic Tuesday: what to wear

I was stumped as to what to write for this week's topic.  Seriously stumped.  And then I got an email from my good friend Hayes, who has just given birth to her fifth baby, who should be patented as the cutest baby (of the month).  She asked the following:

Hey, I have questions to ask for topic tuesday.
First of all, I got an ipod. What do you listen to when you walk? It has been so long since I listened to real music. I just bought Poisons greatest hits album and am about to add Bon Jovi.
Also, what do you wear when you work out? When my sister was here, I got rid of TONS of clothes. I wanted to make myself look nice so I tossed most of my frumpy clothes. Now, I need clothes to walk in!  The last time I actively pursued exercise, I wore black leggings and a big t-shirt. What should I wear now?
Now, what makes you think I could answer these questions?

Music is fun.  I LOVE me some music.  I've got an eclectic mix of music on my exercise playlist.  It contains such variety as multiple songs by The Clash and Depeche Mode, Bust a Move, pop like Pon de Replay, Renegade by Styx, YMCA, and London Bridge by Fergie.  I've given away copies of my playlist, although they had to be shortened sets because I stupidly bought cd's that were only 80 minutes in length.  My running playlist is 3.7 hours.  Yikes!  I'm going to add some new stuff this week - I really am enjoying the Trans Siberian Orchestra stuff that I bought, and some of the songs really rock.  They have an awesome beat.  That's how I choose a lot of my music - by beat - it needs to keep me at a certain pace.  iTunes has a lot of sports music available for download, and you know you can always listen to podcasts.  Well, I can't, since I rely pretty heavily on my music, but you know what I mean.

Now onto clothes.  Who ever said that black leggings and big t-shirts won't work for exercise?  My own personal philosophy is wear whatever is comfy to you, whatever works for you.   If you like shirts and leggings, wear them with pride.  I actually have a pair of black under armour leggings for really cold days.  I do find that I get too hot in t shirts, though.  I bought some running tops that are poly/spandex blend and I really like the way they keep me cool.

The one thing I will tell you is to support your girls.  Wear the best bra that you can find, and make sure it's tight enough to keep you from bouncing.  Also, socks are important.  I bought some really great ones from the running store.  Regular sports socks from Wal-Mart were giving me blisters, but with these, I never get a tender spot.

If I was tight on money, I'd do spend it on good bra, shoes and socks, and just wear whatever shirt and shorts I had available.  As you become more and more interested in exercise, buy one or two things that you like.  (I remember when I first started running I wore the same purple Adidas top every single day.) For instance, I really like this top.  I'd buy it first, and then buy some shorts to go with it a month or two later.  I've been really happy with the Nike tops that I've bought, the moisture wicking ones.  Just be forewarned - if you are a sweat-er like I am, wiping your face on one of these shirts isn't very productive.  I've worn (ugh, I can't believe I'm evening owning up to this) bike shorts out in public, with big sloppy tee's over them.  When I realized that my exercise habit wasn't going away, I slowly added a few pairs of longer length shorts, in order to avoid the dreaded thigh chafing. (Note: these are too expensive, but you get the idea.  I just wanted to give you a visual.)  Title Nine has super womens exercise wear.

Layer upon layer in the cold.  I typically wear a shirt with a polarfleece ove rit and rip it off after about 30 minutes.  Don't forget your gloves and your earband/hat if you need it.

My thoughts on exercise wear are scattered.  In one paragraph, I tell you to wear whatever you want.  Then I go into a tribute to Nike clothing.  The point is, do NOT let your clothing keep you from exercise.  You can walk, or do exercise tapes, in whatever you have.  When you get more into the exercise, then buy one or two nicer things.  Make it a splurge to yourself as a reward for achieving a goal.

I'm in the mood for a giveaway.  Are you?  If you want a copy of my playlist, tell me why I should pick you.  What makes you more in need than the previous commenter?  C'mon, get creative!

Just as a note, if you request the playlist, please realize that some of the songs may have words that are a bit not so nice.  I don't want anyone to be upset with me for a curse or two, or three.....

Because I don't have anything but Neil Diamond, John Denver, and Judy Collins on mine?

They are my favorites, but don't work very well for walking the 4+ miles I do every day when walking my dogs. I've lost over 50lbs. and have 20 more to go.

Don't have a CLUE what to pick for other music, and the thought of picking and choosing overwhelms me. I'd LOVE to have it done for me, and I know I like YMCA!

The Frog Bra by Title 9 is the very best!! Makes you feel as if you have no chest at all (that is a plus when you are running!)

On my iPod I often listen to podcasts of radio shows that I miss due to work (erk). So there is no music. BUT there is alot of laughing because I like the comedy shows. Laughing is GOOD because it's even better for you than EXERCISE! My best exercise or other playlist is an Aussie radio show called The Shebang (BTW, Apparently non-Aussies MAY find this show insensitive and/or offensive.) I save it into groups of around 20 short episodes, and not stop what I am doing till it finishes - it's that addictive. Oh, and I always look like a dag so can't help on the what threads to wear thing!

When I was running daily in the winter, I would wear a singlet (one of those little tank top things) under a turtle neck made of the breathable fabric and top with a cotton shirt. If I got too hot, I'd take the cotton shirt off and tie it around my waist. For really cold days, take off the cotton shirt and top with a nylon jacket. It really holds the heat in.

Carmen - I want your play list. Why? Because I seriously need motivation to get off this pregnancy weight. It ain't moving so far, and my own tune selection is sadly inadequate....

Just a thought on play-lists:

I have a half dozen playlists that I pick according to what mood I'm in.

I have one that is exclusively jazz, blues and other purely instrumental music. I don't ever have a full album of anything, just the pieces I like... this can include bits of music from Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Gershwin's Rhaphsody in Blue, Flight of the Valkries, Glen Miller, really just about anything that appeals to me, but no vocals (I sometimes find voices very distracting).

I have one that is solely my favourite male-vocalist bands (Barenaked Ladies, Nickelback, Queen, Petshop boys etc.)

I have one that is all my favourite female vocalists... Evanescence, Janis Joplin, Arethra Franklin, Abba, Blondie, etc.)

I have one that is all angry music. Metal, punk, Rammstien etc.

My last one is all sketches - Monty Python, Cosby (these are hard to find), different (fairly clean) standup routines.

My husband has one that is all soundtracks to movies. I will someday compile one that is all singable musicals.

I deserve the playlist because I asked TWO questions!

I bought a good pair of running shoes. Right now is a good time to get some as well since everything is on sale! I got $150 shoes for $80.

And thanks for the cute baby comment. I washed his hair last night and he went to bed with it wet. Please don't tell my grandfather as he would roll over in his grave! So now, his hair is all dry and standing straight up. He looks like a punk baby!

I also have a GOOD bra. It costs almost as much as my shoes, but it isn't going anywhere!

Off to see what everyone else listens to!

I was just thinking yesterday how I need to update my music for the gym - I walk to the same music every time I exercise because I don't know what to put on the music list! And I'm not at all offended by a few words :)

I'm such a dork, I don't have an iPod. And if I did, it would probably only have like, the Wiggles sound track on it.

Why do I need your playlist? Because thanks to you and the Amazing Shrinking Mom, I'm currently on a 16-day workout streak and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

Also, I need to learn some new dirty words, so y'know, it would be educational and fun!

what do u think ?

My friend has been buying cigarettes via internet for very low prices without paying taxes for more than half a year.
I was extremely surprised by that. Furthermore, prices are less than in the Indian reservations.
I found a very interesting article on this topic on www.go2cheapcigarettes.com
I’d like to see your opinions.
