It's a love thing
Since Karen over at Chookooloonks has closed up shop, I'm not certain if Love, Thursday will continue. I hope so, even though I've missed SEVERAL weeks, due to less than loving behavior over here.
But a friend of mine shared this picture with me and I loved it so much that I really felt I should share it. My youngest is sometimes hard to love. This past week we attended Santa Breakfast. It was loud and raucous and overwhelming to me, and I don't have SID. She hung in there like a trooper, but long about 45 minutes into the hour, she'd had enough. She climbed up on my lap, buried her head in the crook of my neck and placed my hands over her ears. She closed her eyes tight and sucked on her pacifier like she was drowning.
And that's when my friend snapped this shot. (She reads here, so I hope it's ok to post this!)

Carmen, that's absolutely beautiful. Definately love.

Oh Carmen...what a beautiful shot of you. I can feel the warmth. Just beautiful.

Awww, what a lovely picture. (And I don't blame her!) After all that, I think she did great to last 45 minutes.

There's nothing more "loving" than a little one knowing they can come to Mama's arms for security.
I love this photo. Beautiful.
(and I think it's the 7 m preggo hormones that are making me cry. Good grief!)

That is an awsome photo. I so wish I had your hair.
Can I ask a serious question though? My oldest, like myself, has serious noise-overload issues (but probably not full blown SID). It makes taking her to a parade or dog show or fair or any of these other "fun" community activities dicy... Things that we would think she'd normally enjoy end up being tantrum-throwing meltdown nightmares. Basically anything with a mega-phone or loudspeakers freaks her out.
I was lucky with the dog-show, she had an uncle to cling to and hide under his jacket.
What kinds of things do you do for Riley that help her cope? I'm not even sure where to start other than cuddling, but as she gets older and into school and on school trips without me, I don't know how to help her self-calm. I tend to dissociate but I'm not sure that's a very good technique as it can get you really LOST if you're in a big area.
Is there anything you can suggest or even point me towards to read? A lot of the SID information I've found so far is all tactile-related.

Oh, what a beautiful picture! I need a little love-feelings after the morning we had here before my older two got on the bus. :P :g:

Carmen,
Lovely photo.
I work for a company that gets 50% off Under Armour gear. If you would like to get some new running clothes from them (skinny butt!), drop me a line and we can figure it out.

Lovely photo! It looks like no matter how many people are there, the two of you are the only people in the room...probably just what the lttle one needed.

I know it's been said, but you are really beautiful, and your mommy/little daughter moment was too precious for words. What a blessing that it was caught on camera for you to treasure always!

I love it when they just sit in your lap for the longest time. In our house, that only means that they are sick. Happy Love Thursday!

AWWWW, that's beautiful!

That was a beautiful picture.
Thank you for sharing it!

Wookie - My sound-sensitive daughter was greatly helped by "Hearos" - an in-the-ear noise filter you can pick up at drugstores. Now, if she'd had tactile issues, they probably would have driven her crazy as they do feel a little weird. But this is how we managed movies and school concerts for years. Now that she is almost 15 she doesn't use them much any more.
Carmen, is it fawning to say you look radiant in that picture? Young!

what a wonderful picture! I'm so glad she has you to comfort her.
My 8yo with SID still does things like that (though with another chewie, not a pacifier)
