The weirdness of grocery shopping
Tonight I needed to go to the grocery store. I decided to wait until everyone was in bed and go to my favorite cheap spot, the open 24 hour Wally world. While I was driving there, I mused. "What am I going to write about tonight?" Nothing really came to mind, in fact, my mind was pretty much a blank.
I did decide that I would take everyone's advice and call for a referral to an internist. Actually, I called today and left a message for the best midwife in the world - she's already returned my call twice and I wasn't home either time. But I'll ask her and see what she recommends. And ugh for all of those who suggested perimenopause, although I'd love to not have my monthly any more.
I parked my van in a really close spot and walked towards the door. Hmmm, why was the door not opening? Oh, right, it's 9:50 - I think this set of doors is closed after 9. I backtracked and went to the other set. Grabbing a cart, I looked down at my list.
"Attention. Attention. Make your way to the registers now. Do not delay. Wal-Mart will be closing at 10 p.m. this evening. Do not delay."
Huh?
I looked at the list in front of me. It had about 100 items on it, as this was payday shopping. I decided that if I only had a few minutes, I'd get what I could from the health/beauty/shampoo/medication area, as those things are waaaay expensive at the other stores in the area. We needed toothpaste, shampoo, personal porducts, razor blades, and Prevacid. I grabbed those items, as the closing announcement repeated every minute. The announcer increased the urgency in her voice with each recitation, and by the time I made it to the register she was really intense. Every register was open - which is unheard of at this store - the food court people were emptying all of the food onto a cart and moving it to the back of the store, as if there was a hurricane coming, and then the announcer came on once again.
"Attention. This store will be closing in one minute. We will not reopen until noon tomorrow. Please make your way to the checkout now."
How bizarre, I thought. Wal-Mart never closes, and this one will be closed for fourteen hours? I stood in the line behind two other shoppers, and realized that I really desperately needed grape juice. I weighed my options for a minute - I could stop somewhere else and pay twice as much for a smaller size - I could do without it, which doesn't matter to me at all, but The Hubster hadn't had any grape juice for three days and he was suffering serious withdrawals - or I could grab some really quickly. It was only two rows over, I was waiting in line, and I decided to go for it.
Yeah, I already know. I'm a troublemaker. Don't tell me.
I went to the row to grab some and was met by three burly male workers. "You have to leave this store now." This was beginning to feel like a really weird dream - why was there so much insistance that we leave now? This very second? I asked if I could just grab some juice, and one guy nodded. I grabbed it and asked, "Why the urgency? What's up that the store has to close?"
Well, apparently the generator was bad - the store was running on emergency power and a new generator was going to be installed. The entire store had to power down and everyone had to leave. In fact, it had already powered down in various parts of the store.
And here I htought I'd have nothing to blog about.

Oh! I was in a powerless walmart once! nobody knew how to get out because the doors wouldnt work, so they had the greeters point us to the manual doors. it was hilarious.

And here I thought Wally World never closed! I've been in one where the power went out, they checked everyone out using the generator, but a generator going bad? Weird.
At least you got the grape juice.

But.... if the generator was bad, couldn't they just use uh, ummm... the electricity that was readily available at this particular moment? LOL.
Geesh! They made it sound like they were running on the generator at that moment and it was going to die in 30 seconds! LOL.

The thought of being stuck in Walmart with no power is horrifying. I know what my nightmare will be this week! Glad you got out safely!

I was stuck in a Walmart during a power outage - with a 2 year old, that, of course, needed to pee and was only about 2 months into potty-training and had no control what-so-ever.
I remember "feeling" my way back to the bathrooms and "feeling" for the potty (I still shudder when I think about it). We were in the back of the store, so there was no way we could make it to the front, and even if we did, it was raining so hard, and the wind was so strong, she would have peed in the car before we could make it anywhere else.

My life's been completely unremarkable recently. I haven't been up to anything. I just don't have much to say. I've just been letting everything pass me by. Shrug. I don't care.

My mind is like a fog. Oh well. My life's been really dull today. Eh. Today was a total loss. I've more or less been doing nothing , but I guess it doesn't bother me.

More or less nothing seems worth thinking about. Not much on my mind today. Today was a total loss. My mind is like a bunch of nothing, but maybe tomorrow. So it goes. I just don't have much to say recently, but whatever.
