A wee bit of inspiration
So, we've come to a very very busy weekend here at Casa de la Masses. About 100 relatives in from out of town to celebrate a surprise party for my father in law - he's 86 - a birthday party for Emma - she's five - houseguests and parties galore. I've scarcely got room to breathe the next few days. I've got brownies to make, towels to launder, cups and napkins to purchase, a cake to decorate, and some sleep to procure. Oh, and I've got to hit the alcohol store.
So, what better weekend to take my kids to the dentist?
Yeah, I'm slick that way.
I thought I'd share with you some of my favorite inspirational quotes. Let me know what you think of them, and tell me yours. Please ignore the stars and the thumbs up or down - I cut these quotes from a site, and can't figure out how to remove them. I'm kinda dense that way.
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.

Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.

This has always been one of my favorites!
People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered; forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies; succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere, people may deceive you; be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight; create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous; be happy anyway.
The good you do today will often be forgotten; do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it may never be enough; give your best anyway.
In the final analysis, it is between you and God; it was never between you and them anyway.

Life throws all kinds of things at you, but it is your responsibility to come out of it with more smile wrinkles then frown creases.

Nothing is so powerful as gentleness nothing is so gentle as true strength. ~Saint Francis de Sales

I always like to know who gets the credit for an interesting thought. Shelly identified Christopher Robin for the "Promise..." one, and, (courtesy of my sister,) I can tell you where "Our deepest fear..." came from. She sent the following to me in March:
This quote was featured in the movie "Akeelah and the Bee"
Marianne Williamson is the author of A Return to Love.
"'Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest
fear
is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our
darkness that most frightens us.' We ask ourselves, Who am I to be
brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to
be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the
world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people
won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children
do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own
light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the
same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically
liberates others." (A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of
"A Course in Miracles", Harper Collins, 1992. From Chapter 7, Section
3])
It sounds enticing, but I am not sure I agree with it!
The one that gives me peace is short: "Be still, and know that I am God." (Psalms 46:10)
I wonder who wrote the "I've learned..." quotation?

you can either stand there staring at the brick and mortar,

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it. Life is a beauty, admire it. Life is a dream, realize it. Life is a challenge, meet it. Life is a duty, complete it. Life is a game, play it. Life is a promise, fulfill it. Life is sorrow, overcome it. Life is a song, sing it. Life is a struggle, accept it. Life is a tragedy, confront it. Life is an adventure, dare it. Life is luck, make it. Life is life, fight for it!

One of my favourites-
As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time. You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back.
Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin.

Here's a few of my faves:
It ain't no use putting up your umbrella till it rains.

"Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think."
"Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength."
Wow, I really needed these words today. I don't really have any favorite quotes, but reading those kind of helped me out. I tend towards self deprecation and even though I am strong through all the things I'm going through in life I should admit it to myself.
Thanks for sharing these.

Hi,
I just found your blog yesterday and I like it!
I'm not commenting on this post but on another where you mention a high school and a cough syrup overdose incident.
I teach at that high school. I was really surprised to see our name on your blog.
As awful as if was, it could have been much worse but it was handled extremely well by the teachers who were in the class with the first student who OD.

Fantastic quotes (I hopped over here from Mommybloggers.com). My favorite:
"When you're falling on your face, you're actually moving forward."
Inspirational, funny AND deep! :-)
