Mission Monday: The freezer edition
It's Monday, it's Monday, rah, rah, blahhhhhhh.
Yeah, that's how I feel. Monday already? Where did this weekend go?
So, for us, it's just a few days until payday, which means it's the time of the month where we get creative. And THAT means it's time to clean out the freezer. What's hiding back there? Vanilla ice cream you brought to work for a coworker's special day? A turkey that your boss gave you LAST Thanksgiving? Taquitos from your last venture to Trader Joe's? A bag of blueberries left over from the summer picking frenzy?
What is in the depths of your freezer that you need to toss? Who has the oldest and/or the weirdest stuff? What can you use to make an AWESOMELY creative meal? How creative will you get, anyway? There's a gift in it for the most creative and the weirdest items.
Wipe down the door and the inside, toss in a small bowl of baking soda, and prepare to enjoy the forgotten treasures.

I have the top tier from my wedding cake in my rather smallish freezer. I celebrated my 8th wedding anniversary in June. I just can't bring myself to throw it out - or eat it!

I have Jimmy Hoffa in my freezer.
I kid.
However, I do have some frozen Guacamole that probably dates back to the time of his disappearance.
WHY I would freeze guacamole of all things is almost as big a mystery as what happened to the leader of the teamsters union...

I have a block of cheese that has been in there for over 5 years. What makes it even worse is that we have moved 3 times since it was bought and everytime it moves with us. Then gets put back into the freezer yet again.

I really think there IS a turkey in there from last year.
ICK.
Better go look, huh?

Well, next to some freezer-burned muffins, we still have a placenta. Oops. The kid is nearly three. We haven't figured out just where to plant it (with a rental, this is a tricky thing).

Mounds of black bananas. Yes, I keep them to make banana bread but don't often get around to it. That sheer number of them in there should keep me busy for the next week, at least.

I have 3 bunches of black bananas too, Kendra! Hubby said make the bread or throw 'em out already! LOL
I just made a HUGE pot of vegetable soup using the 20 partial bags of frozen veggies, sausage, and hashbrown potatoes I found lurking in the freezer.

I have 5 bags of frozen chicken, 3.5 boxes of frozen steaks, ice pops from this summer, frozen blueberries from last summer (*G*) and a couple od frezzer bags seperated into one pound bags of hamburger. I think that's all.......
I hope you are having a nice monday!

I cleaned out my freezer at the end of the month once in an effort to stretch to grocery day and ended up mixing the following:
ground beef (not a lot mind you)
half a bag of freezer burnt hash brown potatoes
half a bag of more freezer burnt peas
a can of mushroom soup and for flavor
a tablespoon of curry powder.
Now my kids ask for it!! Can we please please have Curried Hamburger. They named it and everything.

We have quite the tiny freezer ('cause we wanted the bells and whistles of an ice maker and water dispenser). Nothing old in the freezer except a teething ring. My youngest child is 5. That means it's been in there 4+ years.

I have 3 packages of butternut squash ravioli. What in the world to you top squash ravioli with? That would be the main reason it's still in there.
If I were to really dig I suppose I'd find a lot of odds and ends (the last in pkg) waffles, toaster strudles, honey buns, that have fallen out of the box in the no mans land...the drawer in the bottom of the freezer.

Yep, I have a placenta from our youngest, too. Weird, huh? I was going to plant it with a tree for her birthday, but I think my husband wants to move soon---so I will keep it for a little longer...sure cuts down on available freezer space :^)
Well, I also found some colostrum from her first few days with us....I'm not planning on using it...

We have two freezers in our basement. I did a two minute inventory and found: halibut and salmon from our trip to Alaska in 01; a deer heart from I don't know when; jalapenos from my FIL (he died in 04); a bag of apple peels (to feed deer); and a paint brush from a paint project in 06. Please don't make me do a full inventory.

One freezer in the basement and six kids (no, the kids are not in the freezer)...I found boxes that at one time held hot dogs but were empty, a sock, and 6 pounds of beef liver that my husband just can't part with. The upstairs freezer attached to the fridge has dill heads for pickling from 2002, a candle holder with wax still intact and, oh yeah...three blackened bananas!
I won't tell you about the 17 meals I packed up last week to make supper time easier, 'cuz it might make you jealous! Lovies!

I have a guinea pig in my freezer. I'm serious. Really. It died while we were on vacation three weeks ago and a friend was pig-sitting for us. She put it in a tiny little box in her freezer so my daughter could bury it in proper ceremony in the backyard when we returned. I picked it up from the aforementioned friend when we returned and promptly put it in the back of our half empty deep freeze. I have pregnancy brain...I keep forgetting to tell my husband to go dig a hole for me when he's off work. Maybe this weekend. :)
