There's a Haiku in this somewhere
But I'm too dumb to figure them out. I always failed that part of English class - the poetry session.
I had a cold sore two weeks ago.
I had a one in a different location last week.
I have a third one today. Yet another spot.
I have tried alum, abreva, l-lysine, campho phenique, blistex, and howling at the moon while wearing boxers.
I've tried to call the dermatologist - who can see me next Wednesday.
So, tonight, after capoeria class, I went to the doc in the box that is open until 10. The grumpy receptionist thought I shouldn't be there - this isn't an emergency. Well, no, it's not. But, damnit, three cold sores in three weeks, and no way to get in to the doctor - regular doc unavailable and like an IDIOT, when I was at the midwife I didn't ASK - and I'm doing what I can do, so take my lousy $25 copay and leave the attitude, m'kay?
And so, with low expectations, I met the doc in the box. A Lovely, lovely lady who saw me for thirty seconds, gave me both Valtrex pills and Zovirax ointment, WITH generous refills and an admonition to please return if I needed more.
Like I said, there's a haiku there somewhere, but I'm going to the 24 hour pharmacy now - at 11:30 - you figure it out.

I can write normal poetry, but hiaku's escape me. Glad you were able to see someone about the cold sore(s).

Jeez. The doc in the box isn't supposed to be for big emergencies. It's supposed to be for when you have a painful cold sore late at night or an infected splinter. I don't think they know how to treat anything else. One time, the 90-year-old doc asked me to read out loud descriptions of allergic reactions to drugs from a book, as his eyes were too bad to see the print. Another time, I was prescribed Vicodin for an ear infection. That is some quality medical care there. And yeah, if it's an emergency, you should be calling 911. No illness or injury is too small for the local doc in the box...as long as you have health insurance, that is.

Cold sores, shingles and genital herpes are all caused by different versions of the herpes germ and, therefore, all will respond to Valtrex.

Glad you were able to get in somewhere. Now, go rest because stress is what sometimes triggers that stuff!

What is a doc in the box? Is it like a Jack in the box?

That nasty receptionist
Full on her pursed lips.

VALTREX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It can help cold sores heal but it's best used at the VERY first inkling of a cold sore. Good luck!

I'm reading this at 7 a.m.I'm 3 sips into my first cup of coffee. There's no way I can top those other haikus left in your comments. :)

Valtrex WILL work! I take one a day as a preventative. Otherwise ... you can take 4 at a time & then another 4 twelve hours later ... when you feel one coming on.
Good luck!

I will get cold sores when I am stressed, sick w/fever or really sunburned...but my NP gave me Famvir and Zovarex and knockon wood.....I haven't had one in over a year. I hope I didn't just jinx myself and wake up with one in the morning.
