The Combo Giveaway - Week Three
This giving stuff away every day is harder than I thought it'd be. Sure, if I was just tossing stuff out and taking it over to the Goodwill, that wouldn't be so difficult. I'm trying to rise a step above, though, and that's proving more difficult.
I listed Sunday of last week on the previous schedule. So, let's start with Monday.
Monday I listened on the phone for over an hour while a person that I know - can't tell you how I know the person or I'd be BIG TIME TROUBLE - ranted and raved for an HOUR. I listened, commiserated and did not try my hardest to get off the phone with a made up emergency. In other words, I gave my time.
Tuesday I said, "Nothing doing - I'm not donating time!" (hey, I'm honest...) and so I cleaned out the video shelves of about 50 videos to give away.
Wednesday I took my old runners, as well as those of my oldest boy - five pairs in all - to the running store to be recycled. The profits benefit underprivileged kids who want to run but don't have shoes.
Thursday I posted a story on Zwaggle about SID and the importance of being aware of the needs of your child. I gave away information. (Yeah, ok, it's a stretch - how about the fact that I also gave my recipe for granola to the newspaper for the recipe request section. Is that better?)
Friday I bagged up another selection of diapers to give to a friend of a friend who is using cloth diapers.
Saturday I cleaned out a bookshelf in preparation to send a box to the residents of Hoy Towers - a senior/disabled center. One of the residents left an entry for the first book giveaway, and while she didn't win, I wanted to send her some books. I emailed with my offer, and she sent me the NICEST email that I think I've EVER received. Seriously - I think I'll frame it. You've got a box of books coming end of next week!
Sunday - food to the food pantry. I gave extra food, and a bit nicer selection than I usually do. (Not that I give crap, but you know what I mean. I hope.)
So, here's the latest in book giveaway selections. (They aren't all books this week, fyi.) Last week's winners have been notified, and I've heard from all but Judith. If you're reading, Judith, email me quick - when I email you it bounces back. I'll have to pass it on to someone else if you don't get back to me! I'll be mailing those books towards the end of this week. Remember, you have a month to read them and pass them on. Since I've got more than books this time, you don't have to pass on the other things - just the books. But I'll never know if you don't pass them on, will I?
Book #1 - The last Laurie Notaro book - I Love Everybody and Other Atrocious Lies.
Item #2 - The Ruby Toots Baby sling, reviewed here. It's large in a green paisley. Very nice for a non adjustable pouch sling.
Item #3 - Bob the Builder Christmas to remember DVD
Item #4 Rescue Heroes - the Movie - DVD
Item #5 - Billy Blanks Basic Training Boot Camp DVD
Book #6 - Lord John and the Private Matter, by Diana Gabaldon - the first of the Lord John series.

Please put me down for the Billy Blanks DVD.
My doctor will be thrilled I am working out, and it would help me out too! I am determined to get the weight worked on before I turn 40!

I would love the Billy Blanks DVD! I've lost 45 lbs since February, but have hit a horrible plateau...Billy might be just what I need to get past it.

I'll put my name in the hat for the Billy Blanks DVD. It's hard to work out here in the summer.
I'll be posting my own giveaway tomorrow- a book!

I would love to have my name in for the sling. I just love your giveaway idea. We're decluttering and most goes to a local thrift shop but to do a giveaway on my blog sounds fun!

Thanks for the nice comments about Hoy Towers, and my email....I meant what I wrote.
And for those who put you down about your choice to make dinner ahead for your large family?
Blah to them - seriously. You are doing what every caring, concerned mom does - every single one.
I'd think far less of you if you trotted off and did not prepare for your family for your absence - it just shows how much you really do care for them.
Keep up the good work. You are an A#1 mom and wife.

I don't want anything in the giveaway - I'll be doing my own giveaways, but I wanted to say that I didn't for one second question your motivation to feed your family. None. I knew exactly why you do it, and I have a smaller brood.
Keep your chin up and don't let those who don't lead your life get you down.
And if you're bored, come over to my site and tell me what to do about my fridge.

Wow, Carmen... I can't believe you got slammed for wanting to provide meals for your family. That's crazy!
I only have 2 kids right now and am planning a trip away for 4 days and I'm up to my eyeballs in lists and to-dos. It's just my nature and my husband likes it that way, too! Do what you have to do!!
and oh yes... I'd love to be entered for the sling!!

Hi Carmen-I won a book? I'm sooo excited. Please try e-mailing me again? We've had storm issues here and our electricity has gone out 3 times this week-FUN!! So...I haven't had the computer on as much. We have food issues in our house as well and whenever I leave I do all the cooking as well-it's just easier, you know. LOL
