I've always been a big fan of coordinated kids outfits. Shirts match pants, socks coordinate with shoes, hairbows and ribbons complete the package. It's kind of a fetish with me, kind of an obsession. I like when people compliment me, and love it that it makes The Hubster happy to see the kids looking so good.
Which might explain why I've been saddled with the worlds MOST obstinate fan of all things dress up, girly and exciting. I'm not naming names, but this 4 year old child loves Fancy Nancy and all she embodies and thinks that every outfit is helped along with glitter and sparkles. She tantrums and screams, cries and carries on, and has even been known to take off her regular clothing in the van and slip into the sparklies that have mysteriously been left in the van.
Which MIGHT explain going to the grocery store accompanied by a child wearing a tiara and feather boa, clomping along in dress up shoes. It could explain why I sidled into Martial Arts one day, carrying a little girl wearing a see through tulle skirt and butterfly wings. It might explain the fact that every outfit has a pocketbook, there are stack of sparkly shoes and flowery clips in almost every room, and she has more dress up than regular. Do you think it'd explain the dangly pearl earrings and the choker that she wears every day? It's embarrassing to my other kids, but it makes her happy, and there's so little of that around that I just don't care.
I draw the line at school, though. Somehow, Catholic school girl plaid doesn't mix too well with pink and glittery. More's the pity - it might dress it up a bit.

my boys couldn't do it, I've been known to put ribbons in their hair when babies and before first hair cuts, just to see, but on their own? they just mis match everything. Mr9 is just "pants, on, shirt, on" done! doens't matter the color. Mralmost 7 is all about how the clothes "feel" on him. He will wear long Johns from October to May to avoid the feel of his jeans on his legs. Mr3 this morning "Mom I'm looking for my orange pants to go with my (pulling away from skin) orange shirt" and my reply 'you don't own orange pants, maybe navy" he came out with RED! so he's got a dog running thru the mountains on a orange lons sleeve shirt, red track/sweat pants and black socks. Somedays I wonder what my boys are thinking when they leave the house.

Lol! I have one hcild who is obsessed with polka dots, clown-like colours and stripes. I have a littel boy obsessed with everything car or truck related. then I have my 3 y.o. who thinks goign to the grocery store in full tulle is the perfect outfit. She has taken to wearing ballerina skirts, crowns and water shoes! I think it's because th water shoes has fairies on them and they are comfy. As you said, why would you tak away their fun? Glittery and pink is fun!

I would totally go to the grocery store in a feather boa and tiara if I thought I could get away with it.
