Half Of My Life

Today is my 19th wedding anniversary. I've officially been married almost as long as I was unmarried.

I turned 20 on November 14, 1989. I met my husband November 20, we were engaged November 30, (edit - I corrected this - it used to say the 20th and I did NOT get married the same day I met him - that's what I get for typing late at night!) and married December 16.  To this day, neither of us can answer the question, "Why so quick?"  We look at each other and shrug.  I dunno.  Love.

We've had six babies together - and I do mean together, he was there for each and every minute of each one - dealt with tricky family issues on both sides, cancer, surgeries for both of us and some of our kids, moved about a dozen times, laughed until we felt like puking and held each other while we (ok, me) cried.

My hubby is probably the person who knows me the best.  He knows what I'm like first thing in the morning - grumpy - how I like to sleep - alone and with a fan and lots of covers - and calls me an addict to the martial arts studio - which of course I am.  He knows that I love to read and hate to clean.  We've been to Mexico, Canada, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and on a couple of cruises.

He knows me so well that he knew *exactly* what to buy me for my anniversary gift.  When we woke up, he suddenly remembered that he had a 7:30 meeting and dressed in his suit for work, leaving me to get everyone ready.  I didn't think too much about it - he has a meeting every single day, so I just assumed it was earlier today.  I put everyone in the van and started to drive off, and then noticed his car coming back towards me.  "That's odd," I said aloud.  "I wonder what happened to his meeting?"  Then I saw that he was carrying a gift for me, and I started to laugh.  I laughed even more when I opened it.  I guess he's tired of hearing me complain.

About Me

  • WANTED, Carmen, mom to the Masses, for dangerous undertakings inside and outside the home. Last seen with her partner The Hubster, and six accomplices (Nikolas 17, Allegra 14, Mackenzie 11, Gabriel 9, Emma 7 and Riley 5). This fugitive is considered armed (with epi pens and inhalers) and dangerous, especially when she hasn't had her morning coffee. She is particularly difficult to recognize due to a recent 80 pound weight loss (size 18-20 down to 2-4!), and has been known to hide beneath large piles of laundry. She's a fan of running races and can be found reading, lifting weights, practicing capoeira or running to the store for milk. ( Read more here.)
