Friday I deposited a check in the bank.
As an aside, this was the first time in forever that I've deposited an actual, paper check. My husband is paid via direct deposit. I am paid mostly via paypal or online and I transfer it to my account, so visiting the bank is not the norm. But I went and deposited the check on Friday afternoon, and the teller told me that the money would credit that night.
Which was good for me, because I'd planned to do some errands on Saturday. All soccer games were canceled so it was a perfect time for me to buy the new school shoes, jeans, eyeglasses and Easter clothes that I really wanted to do while my husband was at work, so that we could spend Sunday together.
Except that, on Saturday, when I checked the account, my deposit had not yet credited.
So I went to the bank Saturday morning, and the teller told me that there'd been a nationwide glitch and no deposits had been credited. It would be fixed by the late afternoon, I was assured, and the fact that people all over the country were unable to access any money - and hearing about people on vacations, who couldn't rent hotel rooms or eat out - well, that put my small trouble into perspective.
I mean, that would seriously suck to be out of town and cashless.
So later on, after boxing class, I checked my account on my phone. When I pulled it up, I saw that all three of my accounts registered the same exact figure.
$88,888,888.
Eighty eight million dollars.
I thought, briefly, about stopping on the way home to buy a new car, a new house, and hit every.single.ATM that I passed, but I knew it was too good to last. Sure enough, by the time I got home to take a screen shot - because, really, this pot would have been much better with a photo as proof - the entire mess was resolved.
I was rich for about 10 minutes.

The sad thing is that I bet a bunch of people would've actually believed it wouldn't be corrected, and started spending away.
I need to start using your bank. I'm pretty sure if I deposit something Friday afternoon, it doesn't get credited until Monday. Maybe it's different if I make a counter deposit instead of the ATM.

Sweet! If you're going to go glitchy, at least do it in the customer's favor!

I need to bank in the US! Not just for the generous amount they deposit in your account (!!!) but because here in the UK, it takes 6 working days before I can draw on the money.
Yes, that's right, 6 working days!!
When I was 18 and at University, it only took 3 working days. How come New Technology has simply slowed it all up? (Although only in the UK, obviously!!)
