My beautiful local friend Katherine graciously awarded me with the "I Make Someone Happy" award!
I'm to list ten things that make me happy. Alrighty, then, sometimes I need a kick in the bum.
- My husband bringing me a cup of iced coffee every morning. He just recently started doing this, and I can't tell you how much it has helped me get a crack on the morning. However, I'm not chipper about it at the time. AT ALL.
- Cooking. I love cooking. Love mixing raw ingredients and creating great stuff from what seems to be nothing. After watching Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution, I am now more than ever convicted that I haven't done enough to feed my children the best I can. I vow to work on that.
- Icy cold Blackberry Lime Slurpees
- Being able to run and not feel like I am drowning. I am UBER slow, though.
- The fact that I received a tax return this year and am able to use it to buy my kids new shoes, Easter clothes and eyeglasses. Money can't buy happiness, but it sure can rent it for a long time. For once, making less than we've made in five years paid off.
- My upcoming trip to the Cayman Islands with just my hubby. It's our annual paid for by his job, kids free trip - and I canNOT wait.
- Taking my kids to dinner and seeing my two oldest, the former Vietnam war combatants, sitting next to each other VOLUNTARILY and talking. AND laughing.
- Getting to the bottom of a really hairy situation that would have had long term, negative repercussions, and doing it without losing either my mind or my cool.
- Being able to buy a new purse. (Yes. I'm shallow. I'm ok with that.)
- Being in bed at 9 p.m. with a new book to read.I know that 11 is more than 10. Sangria and guacamole and tacos with my hubby.
I swiped this part DIRECTLY from Katherine. She said it way better than I ever could. What blogs make me happy? Lots and lots of them. All of you who are
reading this. I don’t want to start listing for fear of missing someone
important. And all of you are important. So I can't just start naming blogs, because then I will miss naming someone and hurt someone's feelings and I can't stand that! Play along with me, though - what makes YOU happy?

Blackberry Lime Slurpees??? What have I been missing out on my whole life? That sound delish!

Pure bliss, joy, nervana, whatever you want to call it, as defined by me:
1) reading the Sunday paper on the patio with my coffee in hand on a warm morning
2) having all things clean at one time, including the house, the cars, the laundry, and the yard (talk about the stars and moon aligning when this happens)
3) a really good movie in the theatre with a tub, yes, a tub, of flavored popcorn and a box of milkduds
4) a wet, cold afternoon spent in a bookstore
5) beachcombing
6) finishing a run, after I start breathing normally again
7) the hours that follow the last final exam that ends the school year (similar to the feelings of parents on the first day of school in the fall)
8) my family, even on their worst days

In no particular order...
1. The sun shining after a run of rainy days.
2. Holding my kids.
3. My husband of 23 years, who miraculously still loves me.
4. Rockpooling, particularly with my daughter.
5. Being on my own for a few hours.
6. Guilt-free time in which to make art.
7. Lying in the sun on a sandy beach...preferably in my favourite spot on earth, Sanibel Island.
8. Playing the piano.
9. Receiving a book token with permission to spend it on myself.
10. Standing on the patio late on a clear night and watching the stars wheel above me.
11. (I know, I know!)A glass of very cold champagne.
