While at church this weekend, I observed a young girl who was wearing a pair of heels for what must have been the first time. She was in the 10-13 year old range, I think - I'm not the greatest at gauging ages, but she was young. It was clear that she had no experience in walking in heels, and while descending the steps of the altar, she fell. She wasn't hurt, just embarrassed.
I remember my first pair of heels. I used my babysitting money and bought a pair of Candie's. I can't even find them now on Zappos, but they were big in the 70's and 80's. I bought 3 or 4 inch backless stilettos - maybe not the most appropriate shoes for a 12 year old - and my mom didn't like them. She's not a wearer of heels.
I LOVE heels. Love how they make my legs look a teeny bit better, how they make me feel, how cute they are - when I wear flats, I have a tendency to shuffle and feel like I'm wearing bedroom slippers.
I remember wearing that first pair of heels to church, and being SO proud of myself. Everyone's looking at me, I marveled. They must think I look so, so grown up. In retrospect, they were probably wondering at this preteen girl wearing what were clearly completely inappropriate hooker shoes.
But I felt good, and that's all that matters.
I wear heels often now. I like to think that I know how to walk in them. They feel like they are part of me.
Are you a heels or flats kind of gal?

My first pair of heels I think were in 7th grade. Yours sound cuter! ;)
I am a shorty (barely 5 ft. 2.) I really wanted a pair of comfy heels for New York during BlogHer weekend but I have freaky high arches and I am a huge ole KLUTZ. I finally found some in the 3 inch range that were black strappy Mudd brand. On clearance, too. WOOT!
Day to day, though, I wear flats.
Honestly I am so damn boring most of the time! ;)

Your material of website is awesome. It can be complete of frustrations in our existence. We reside, we could not escape from them. We will have to face to them and sort out to cope with issues at final.

I'm 5'11" and hubby is only 5'8". Our height difference doesn't bother him, but nevertheless, when I realized he was 'the one' I threw out everything that had more than a 2" heel (and there were plenty).

i absolutely love heels and miss wearing them. i wore them everyday to work, but once i quit working 2 years to have my baby i don't wear heels much anymore. my wardrobe now is a mom wardrobe and it's just not practical to wear heals. :(

Flats. I'm 5'11" in bare feet, so I don't bother making it worse...erm...be taller. I'm already taller than my husband and more than most people I know. I have a few pairs of shoes that have a bit more heel and I like them, but actual heels? I don't think I've owned a pair in years.

A bit of both. I loved heels -- the higher the better in my 20's & 30's. And I still have 10-20 pairs ... come on, they were butter soft leather or perfect suedes... In the 2 years, I'd shifted over to Earth shoes with the reverse heel* from two decades of mostly Birkenstock or Merrell clogs, Bass sandals & the 1 pair of sandals I got on sale & never found another anywhere and wish I'd bought 20 pairs of to hoard away. Love love love the Earth Twilight boots (even use them for motorcycle boots) and of course they stopped making them. I am hoping to score a used pair on EBay. *Yes, it was obsessive. I bought them in the favorite styles in every color, and then branched out to other styles, and finally the boots. I even bought them for my daughter and son-in-law.
But after experimental achilles work to heel the tears and detaching... and 8 weeks of a boot** (medical foam, etc. like you wear after breaking your foot)... I am sentenced to supportive tennis shoes with a heel lift. **I wore one Dansko clog on the good side & now it's shorter than the matching clog for the bad side. :-(
The good news is I have a 26 yr old daughter who loves wearing heels*** ... specifically Jessica Simpson heels (or anything that looks like a barbie doll shoe... so I indulge my shoe fetish by buying her shoes (& her poor husband wonders why his wife has so many shoes). She had a friend over recently & they spent an hour looking at "her heels" and discussing the different styles, colors, heel heights... I loved it. (Just too bad I didn't win the lottery... all the things with stars in the catalogs she lusts after would be in the UPS truck. And a few of my more extravagant desires.) ***Yes, this is the same daughter who I bought Earth shoes for. She's complex. She literally wore through the soles and toes of the Earth Twilight boots in 7.5 because she wore them walking to work and almost every single moment she wasn't wearing heels or going barefoot. She wears the heels for "going out" - - not working or hanging out.
