On Thursday night, my son went to WalMart for me. I was tired, it had been a long evening, and I still had hours of work to do. I needed soy butter, a belt each for Emma and Riley, and Cascadian Farms granola bars - the only ones that are food safe for Gabriel. I'm convinced that the aggravation of having a teenager is compensated by the fact that he can do errands for me. He called me from the store, completely overwhelmed at looking through the girls department for two belts. Couldn't they just wear boys belt?
Yes. Woven belts are the same for boys or girls. Grab two and come home.
He did so, and I worked for a while. Then I took a break to set the table for the morning. I set out vitamins, medicines, cups and bowls. Then I decided to set up the coffee pot for the morning.
Except that I had NO coffee.
The next day, I got up and drank three cups of coffee. All morning long, I was headachey and tired. I figured it was due to this cold - yes, I'm STILL coughing - and I started cooking. I made pumpkin cheesecake bars and mixed up oatmeal bread (and it was AMAZING and I think you should all make it, because delish!), and then realized I needed olive oil to make the eggplant parmigana for dinner, so I decided to go to the grocery.
Yes. I spend a lot of time at the store. I'm well aware of it.
Nik asked if he could go with, and as we walked down the coffee aisle to get to the oil, he tapped on the free flowing coffee beans to show me what he'd bought. These ones right here, he said. The Columbian ones.
The ones that had DECAF written in BOLD GREEN LETTERS.
So I bought a different kind of coffee. Dunkin' Donuts, which my husband requested, because he drinks it at work and really likes it. I bought a pound, set it up in the coffee pot for Saturday morning, and went to sleep.
I got up Saturday morning to tea colored coffee. APPARENTLY, following the instructions on the side of the package results in weak coffee, and so I patiently dumped it out and refilled the filter with double the coffee. I put the water in and turned the pot on and turned around to clean up the dishes that had been left in the sink from the night before. I heard a noise behind me and turned to see that the coffee was coming out from the bottom of the machine.
And the pot was mysteriously full of sludge.
i'm wondering if it's a sign that I should stop drinking coffee.

No - no - n0! It is a sign we need a cup of coffee before we make coffee in the morning. Really, somebody should figure that out already....

My wonderful, awesome hubby makes the coffee in the morning. For some reason, apparently because the whole filter/coffee/water/button thing is too much work when I get up, if he doesn't make it I'll go without. I'll have a glass of OJ (which actually wakes me up almost as well as coffee) and call it good. Around noon, when my eyes are good and open, I might make a pot. LOL How pathetic is that??

I am so sorry, I feel so bad for you. I cannot live without coffee, and it has to be good...Rick makes it every night for me. It's ready when I get up.

Teenagers are awesome gophers.
Pox on Dunkin' Donuts coffee, give me something with more octane than that. ;)

I'm afraid that if I drank coffee every morning I would no longer get the awesome rush that I get now. And I REALLY like that rush. It helps me get lots done.

Can't stand coffee - taste or smell of it. My caffeine drug of choice is Diet Dr. Pepper. It used to be regular Dr Pepper but I switched to the Diet when I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
I swear once I got my driver's license Mom didn't drive anywhere for a year.

Just try wiping down your coffee maker surfaces and cleaning out the carafe and trying again. My coffee maker acts out once in a while for no apparent reason, once, but works fine with a little clean-up and some unplugged "recoup" time.
I mean, quit? No no, let's not get too crazy here :)

Arrrghhhh...I let no one else buy my coffee! I got a Senseo machine free (well, $15 for shipping/handling)3 summers ago, and I have a cup from that each morning (we use the drip pot on the weekends). I try not to have too much caffeine, but a full-octane cup is a necessity each morning. Have you tried the Trader Joe coffee varieties? We are currently making a blend of "Smooth and Mellow" decaf and Kauai coffee on the weekends.

The other day, I washed the coffee pot, rinsed the filter basket, put a new filter in, filled it with coffee, set and triple checked the autotimer.... DID NOT ADD WATER. I am SMRT.

I like the way coffee smells, but not tastes. Like an above commenter my caffeine of choice comes from Diet Dr. Pepper-the Cherry Diet Dr. Pepper. *g*
Don't give up, just try again. Wishing you lots of yummy, to you, coffee!

I bought a bag of Dunkin Donuts coffee because the commercials convinced me I needed it.
I couldn't wait to finish the bag---it was weak and not the right flavor. Cinnamonish? I don't know, I didn't like it.
I actually like Folgers the best! ;-)

now that you showed your son the kind of coffee you "really" like, you should have no more coffee mishaps in the morning. ;-)
