Nothing says Christmas quite like candy flavored vodka.
From left to right we have butterscotch, peppermint, red skittle, lemon drop, orange skittle and green skittle.
I first saw the idea on Scary Mommy's site, and couldn't get it out of my mind. I was looking for something original and unique for a few of my friends, and thought that this would fit the bill. She had done it with skittles, but mentioned that you could use any sugar candy. A quick run through the store for Skittles, Butterscotch disks, sugar peppermints ( the soft ones, not the hard ones), and a trip to the ABC store for vodka and I was ready.
Pour the skittles into a bowl and set your slave labor to work let your darling children practice their sorting skills.
Yes. I let my children help me make alcoholic beverages.
Put about an inch or so of the sorted candy into the bottom of a pint Mason jar.
Fill to the top with vodka and cap. Shake the bottle and allow to sit for 3 days, shaking whenever you walk by and admiring all the pretty colors.
Strain through a piece of cheesecloth to remove the solids - I had to do this a few times - and then put the vodka back in the rinsed jar. Cap and gift.
I really enjoyed this.As did the friends to whom I gave this.
Notes from various websites that discuss Candy Vodka suggest mixing it with Sprite or Club Soda - or enjoying it plain. Absolutely delicious.

great idea!

Your candy vodka blog was posted & shared by a friend of mine of Facebook. Loved the recipe but also enjoyed reading your blog. I'm a former Catholic now Presbyterian divorced mother of one toddler and don't know how any woman handles more than one child (perhaps b/c mine seems to be a tomboy and has the energy of two) so I am in awe of women who can keep a marriage, full-time job and large family together. I'm just now getting back into writing more and hope to be published someday so thanks for sharing your successes - on writing and weight loss - I need to do more of both!

I would never in a million years have guessed you could do this! Great gift idea, too.

I LOVE this idea. My only question is, what are soft peppermint candies? This is a fantastic idea for people who have everything!

My God, I need to do this! Sadly, I don't have time before we hit the road on Thursday. Hm. After we get home. Then I can enjoy it all myself.
