I did write again at The Elff Diet.
My husband has long been known as "The Funner Parent". I'm ok with that. Not everyone can be the "Master of Getting it All Done". Everyone has a talent. Today he took the 3 younger kids to the local germ infected jumping pit so that I could manage to get some work done. This Christmas break has proven exceptionally tough to get any work done.
I wrote six posts, folded wash and made dinner. Despite the invite, I definitely didn't want to go with them - I'm the kind of parent who sits and watches and he's the kind of parent who gets in there and plays. They have MUCH more fun with him.
When he returned home, though, he told me that he'd created a new game for them - one that allowed him to sit and watch. They continued the game at home.
They were SECRET AGENTS.
Our mission is to solve the puzzle.
There is a vitamin case, with vitamins for old people. (True - he takes Centrum Silver). You need to find that case. Bring it to me. (So he could get a vitamin.) Now go put it back. Behind that case is a Christmas Tree Credit card case - in that is a card. Bring me the card. (So he could confirm that there was a card inside.) Now, bring the card and the case back.
Next, you must go to the 72nd floor of this hotel, to the main spy's bedroom. (Our bedroom.) In his safe,(which is the closet) you will find a satellite box. Behind the box is a magic wand. Bring it to me. (It was an old tv remote.) Now go put it back before the bomb explodes.
BAM! The bomb exploded! They laughed like crazy people.
The New York Aquarium is missing a stingray.(Small, plush stingray, bought to remind us of the time he was stung by a stingray.) Your job is to find the stingray. You need to check the New York Harbor ("swim" in the tv room and the playroom, which have dark blue carpet) and locate the missing stingray. (It was located in the laundry basket.)
There's been a espionage agent in the toothpaste. It's very important that a Secret Agent practice good oral hygiene. Your mission is to make sure you have the correct toothpaste, use it, and be back here before the Enemy Secret Agent notices.
Your last job of the night is to sneak upstairs and get into your bed before the Enemy Secret Agent knows that you are in your bed. If you are discovered, you will be sent to Siberia.
Kind of beats my "Get up there and get in your bed before I scream so loudly that I burst a blood vessel", yes?

That is freakin' genius!

We have a funnier parent around here too, and it's NOT me. He is singing to his audience of grateful fans right now.

Brilliant! I'm totally stealing this when Bean is old enough.

Love that! Way to go Dad! Wish I was the funner parent more often, but I do have my moments.

Love this! I remember a time when my greatnephew was about 6 and wanted me to play with him. I wanted to watch a movie on TV. So I made him the Super Spy and he ran around the house pretending to do spy stuff while I sat the in the chair watching my movie. All I had to do was occasionally "shoot" at him when he ran by and make "spy noises" (which he told me what to say). It was a great game! Win-win for both of us.

Genius! Keep it up and you'll have little helpers in no time!

So great. Wish I had the energy to create this kind of game for everything I want my kids to do.

This is fabulous!! I'm sure the missions can be tweaked to include tidying away toys, sorting socks, taking out the rubbish etc!
We have had a funner parent in our house too: always but always the one who isn't having to deal with the kids at that moment!!
