So, now we move on to the next area of frivolity - the MAKEUP bag.
I do have to say, though, in reference to yesterday's post - that although it looks like my purse would be heavy, it really isn't. In fact, I went to a smaller purse today - a friend of mine gave me a Kathy bag (confession: I had NO idea that it was a sought after brand - I just happened to think it was cute) and it all fit well.
Except the Cosmo magazine - and, yes, I know it's not the best reading - but does EVERYONE only read scholarly stuff? Because I do, and then I don't. I read alllll kinds of stuff. Maybe that should be tomorrow's post - the frivolous reading material we all have.
In any case, here is the contents of my makeup bag, dumped out for all to see:
From left to right we have:
Row 1 Vertically: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer in Green (to cover and control the red in my complexion), under it is NARS Orgasm powder blush, and under that is NARS Cream Orgasm blush. The name is really offputting, but I swear to you that it is the most amazing blush ever.
Row 2 Vertically: Smashbox concealer, NARS Santa Fe foundation, 3 different CoverGirl eyeliners that are all the same color, and Too Faced eyeshadow.
Row 3 Vertically: Smashbox Boi-ing Concealer, Smashbox concealer, NARS SuperOrgasm blush (the same shade, with SPARKLES added!), and Benefit Erase Paste.
Row 4 Vertically: 2 different CoverGirl Mascaras - I like the purple one better, as long as it's new - Estee Lauder Crystal Rose Lipstick (Which is my very favorite and is discontinued, so I'm stalking it feverishly on Ebay) and NARS Brightening Serum, which I mix one squirt of with my liquid foundation before I rub it all over my face.
So. I have a lot of concealer. I have insanely horrific dark circles under my eyes. Right now, my favorite concealer is the Benefit Erase Paste, but I rotate between the others. One of my favorite things to do is hang out in the Sephora store and try stuff, and I buy one thing every so often. I know that some of it is spendy, but it seems to last a long time. And I get gift certificates for my birthday to Sephora, AND one of the review companies I write for pays me in Amazon - and it's allllll available on Amazon.
What's your favorite makeup product? Have something that you think I should try?

heheeh Avon! :) I'm now selling it here in Canada so It's become my favorite. I really love their Anew Day and night creams.

I also deal with dark circles under my eyes. For those I love my Mary Kay concealer, applied with a brush instead of my fingers.
I like Mary Kay eye shadows and creams but for my mascara I like my maybeline. I have yet to find a lip stick or eye liner I'm married to yet

I was going to post this about Cosmopolitan yesterday, but thought twice about it... but since you mentioned it again, I guess I will after all :)
My mother is one of the more brilliant people that I know. She's also a granola-eating, Birkenstock-wearing, no-makeup kind of person (I have literally no memories of her wearing makeup or heels, and she owns two pairs of - worn out - pants because she doesn't like shopping for clothing). Not remotely frivolous. Great sense of humour, but not, you know, silly. Her favourite book is Middlemarch, which she rereads every year or so.
She also buys People. Every week. She won't subscribe to it - I think she's a little embarrassed by it - but she looks forward to getting it at the grocery each week. I asked her about it a couple of months ago, and she said that she'd given it some serious thought and come to the conclusion that she was, when it came down to it, frivolous: She likes the gossip. She likes reading about celebrities' lives (whereas my father, as she pointed out, is far more apt to pick up People, say "hmm", put it back down, and return to his murder mystery or the business section of the paper).
Now, I'd disagree on the "frivolous" charge she lays upon herself, but I'd also say, "Who gives a damn?" Reading People doesn't make her any less brilliant. Reading Cosmopolitan doesn't detract from your intelligence, either.
I read a higher volume of books than pretty much anyone I know at the moment, and I seesaw wildly between "good" books (memoirs, fiction by acclaimed authors, nonfiction on whatever looks interesting at the moment) and MUCH trashier stuff (very fluffy fiction, supernatural Austen "sequels, etc.). I'm past the point of caring that people will see me reading the crappy stuff. You know what? It was written to be enjoyed. There's no shame in that.

I love the Nars orgasm powder blush too. I agree it lasts a long time. I want to try the concealed you mentioned. I have been using Jane iredale foundation and powder for about 4 months. Love it, tons of coverage but looks dewy And glowing. It is pricey but lasts about 2mos. Even with everyday usage. I have lot of issues to cover up, drk circles, scarring, and redness around my nose, this is the best stuff ever! Btw have been using Nars lipstick too, fabulous color and smooth texture.

Smashbox eyeshadow primer is the bomb. And, not makeup but face-related - I am madly in love with my Clarisonic. Pricey but totally worth it and everyone I know who has one agrees.

thanks for showing us! my faves overlap with yours a LOT. but where are all the lipsticks and lipglosses?!

I don't wear a lot of makeup, if any. I should to accent my eyes since I wear glasses and my eyes get lost. I buy the stuff at Target because I cannot bring myself to pay so much for anything else since I don't wear it much.

I wear all drugstore makeup. Although, seeing as how my eyes are starting to water almost daily I'm thinking that I need to try something else. Don't know what the culprit is but I may be in the market to try some new stuff soon!

My biggest piece of advice is to get a foundation brush. My skin looks so much better now that I use it to apply my foundation. I also LOVE Physician Formula bronzer in Las Vegas Strip. I lightly dust it over my cheeks, forehead and nose for a soft dewy sparkle. I never used to get complimented on my skin, but now I do.
Other fav is Maybeline Great Lash Mascara and botox. Just kidding.

Confession. I do not have a make up bag. I put it on in the morning and that's it. I use my lip balm often during the day, but for make up touch ups? Doesn't happen. I've never really thought about it. Now I will.

I'm have a mix of Mary Kay and drug store make-ups in my bag and am not married to any of them. I need to start using under eye concealer for the dark circles. Thanks for the recommendations. Now to bite the bullet and buy the product! Love the CoverGirl mascara - my favorite too!

I don't wear make-up. I'm allergic to a lot of different things and have super-sensitive skin, so no make-up. However because of the super-sensitive skin I will use almays spot concealer when I have a weird itchy red spot-the minute amount of salicylic acid in the concealer calms the spot.

I found out about NARS orgasm blush from your blog and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Most of my makeup is in the "eye" catagory - lines, shadows, and my all-time favorite, Sephora store only brand of mascara- Fiberwig! It's non-smeary, super long lasting and doesn't bother my contacts one bit. It's funny though, I must have 50 different eyeshadows, but only seem to wear 2! Need to get outside of the box more....

I need a make-up make-over. Now, that I am closer to 50 than 40(did I just say that?) I need more than drugstore cosmetics...especially for foundation and concealer. I think I am going to ask for a gift card to Sephora...for Valentines Day....

i absolutely love bobbie brown's make up stick. it provides the best coverage. also, i've been using maybeline's great lash mascara. i've literally tried every mascara over the years and i always go back to great lash.

Nars orgasm blush is on every top 10 makeup list. I'll have to try it out at sephora next time.
I love MAC lipsticks. And Bobbi brown. Both are pricey but worth every penny. BB also sends free stuff if you comment through their website. FYI. a lot of outlet malls have makeup stores selling discontinued shades for Estee lauder. Check em out if you have one around.

Oh what make up do I not love.....total sephora addict. 2 orders just this week. Bare Minerals make up and mineral veil. I do their eye shadows too or Stila. Stila kajol eye liners are magic LOVE them especially in amethyst but I have other colors too. Fiber Wig mascara, bobbi brown powder blush (just this week found a color and formula I love! yeah for me! I've been blushless for over a year) Now I'm stalking Bobbi Brown lip colors (my first ever return to Sephora ever because the colors were awful for me) But bobbi is on the only one who uses yellow base instead of blue base which totally rocks with my skin tone. I too have the under eye issues but ever since a Stila girl showed me how to use concealer on the sides of my nose up into the corner of my eye instead of slathering directly on the under eye area...viola! light reflects off and totally minimizes the dark circles :) And I LOVE LOVE LOVE AnnMarie Borlind sink care products. I can't get over how smooth my skin is now that I've completely switched over. No one believes me when I tell them I'm almost 48 which means it must be working

oh and lip plumper...I puffy heart my lip injection lip plumper. I don't know that I'll ever have Angelina lips but at least my top lip isn't disappearing as my older sisters lip did as she aged so I'll keep a plumpin'

I love seeing this! I have NARS orgasm blush, orgasm highlighter liquid-y thing, and the lip gloss. All faves. I also really like Smashbox bronzer, primer and lip gloss. Try the BUXOM mascara if you get a chance. I saved up my Sephora points and got a travel-sized one with my most recent order. Fantastic! I don't touch up my make-up during the day, just some gloss. Thanks for sharing!

I used to use a green tinted primer for covering the red in my complexion, but now I use Benefit Bluffdust (which I suppose may have a different name in the US?), which is yellow tinted. I apply it over my foundation (which is mineral-based, so non-greasy and therefore no clumping when I apply the Bluffdust) and just brush off the excess. It's by far the best product I've found, in 25 years of trying to tone down my redness. Not cheap (in the UK at least), but lasts for ages.

Hi i don't know whether you can buy from the uk website, or if you would need to have someone buy it for you and ship it but they have the crystal rose creme lipstick for 18-22 pounds sterling on the uk website. hope this helps.
