Last week, I was in Tucson with my hsuband on a trip that he earned through his efforts at work. It was a tough year for him, economically speaking, and although we've gone on the trip for the past 8 years - we are keeping everything in us crossed that we will be able to go next year.
The yearly trips are amazing. We literally spent $9 on the entire trip.
We slept in. We hiked the Ventana Canyon.
We went to a wonderful show in Old Tucson. We danced.

We ate and ate and ate - I gained 4 pounds. (Ouch. In four days. Double ouch.) Mostly - I just drank, swam, read and enjoyed the heck out of my husband.
I put my husband in jail.

We rarely have time together. The few hours he's not working are split between the kids and his elderly dad, his obligations at church with choir and cantoring and landscaping for the prayer garden. It's a rare night that we go to bed at the same time, and equally rare when we wake up together.
Probably TMI, but there you go.
We badly needed to get away and reconnect.

My husband and I did the same 2 weeks ago - the first time in 24 years of marriage that wasn't business related. We swam, drank, slept and also reconnected. Even though we work together; the 6 kids, parents (all elderly) 2 businesses and life get in our way. He's a really cool guy and I found him again on our little 2.5 day trip. There's definitely more of that going to happen! Glad you got a little of that too!

It's always such a blessing to take a break, and it does such great things for a marriage. Taking care of your relationship is one of the best ways to take care of your children. =)

YAY!I'm so happy for you. And yes, it made me cry...happy tears. Being a military spouse I have learned how to rejoice in others joy. Some days, it's all we have.

So nice to see you guys enjoying yourselves.. and so happy you were able to get away and CHILL! Four pounds on you just means your hair got a bit poofy in the Tucson weather or something... you can easily take that off in about, what, a second?! You look fabulous!

What a wonderful thing to get away together! Here's hoping you're able to go again next year. My hubby and I keep talking about a long weekend getaway, but life and all the drama of kids, ill parents, work, church, etc keep getting in the way. I'm glad someone can be having the fun, important time together, even if it's not us!

I know you both are busy, but you should really both consider cutting back on outside committments and making a point of spending more time together. I imagine you want to stay married after the kids are grown and gone...don't neglect your relationship now thinking you will be able to just pick it up later. Turn off the pc and tv and go to bed at the same time. Eat dinner together after the kids eat. Go out once a week, even just for coffee, together.
If you don't have time to do that...think of all the time you'll have if you're alone. And don't say "oh, not me"...second marriages are more likely to fail, remember.

I love your black dress with the pink polka-dots. Very cute. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get it?
