There was a terrific post on Blogher this weekend in the section called Own Your Beauty.
I have a large problem with the concept of Owning My Beauty. That seems vain and self centered to me - how DARE I say I'm beautiful, who am *I* to think I'm beautiful, what gives me the RIGHT to say these things?
Don't you wish you were in my mind.
I've done these meme type things in the past, and while I typically do them in time of no topic about which to write or there's absolutely nothing going on that I can write about - for nothing could be farther from the truth and I just need to figure out how to write about what happened -
I can do this.
Without further ado, may I present to you - 25 (or so) things about me that are individual and unique and make me, well, I hesitate to say "beautiful" but can certainly say special and just like no other - although you may have 1 or 2 or 12 in common with me - I don't think any one reader has all 25 (or so).
Maybe.
- Even though I've been writing this blog for (I think, about, close to) 9 years, I still feel as if I have NO idea what I'm doing.
- I have a red spot on my right eyelid - I can't remember what it's called, but it looks like a cut - and it never goes away, so I cover it with vast heaps of cover up. As the day wears on, it begins to peek out. Kind of like a small birth mark.
- I have 7 scars. One in front of my ear, thanks to jaw surgery I had when I was 17. One on my knee from a bed spring, one on a knuckle from a knife slip in culinary school, and 4 from melanoma excisions.
- I secretly - or not so secretly - wish I could decorate my house a la my Pinterest page. The quirky, unique stuff I see there is what is in my mind but never comes out.
- I always have about a dozen tabs open on my Firefox with things I want to buy/try/blog about/read.
- I have Ramones converse sneakers.
- With red shoe laces.
- I come across as being cool and comfortable, but I'm extremely socailly awkward and HATE coming into a party.
- I don't collect stuff. I don't think.
- Every once in a while, I get a wild hair and start decluttering stuff. This week it was my kitchen. My husband came in to vast white spaces and an empty counter - and I'm DETERMINED to keep it that way.
- Next up - the kids bathroom upstairs. I told my husband what I wanted to do, and he said no. Sorry.
- i put salt on my ketchup instead of the fries - when you pick the fries up, the salt falls off. My dad told me that and it's true.
- I also salt the tortilla chips in Mexican restaurants. They are flat without salt.
- I'm becoming a thrift store aholic.
- It's helping me in my dresses only philosophy - which I really like, but ye gads, it's tough.
- I like to do creative stuff like making my own sidewalk chalk, but my husband doesn't see the value in it - why not just buy some at the dollar store? He just doesn't get it.
- One of my kids is social media restricted for the next week.
- My body is shaped much like that of Marilyn Monroe - busty, with hips and a booty - in a Jennifer Aniston type world - slim, athletic, more straight than curvy.
- I hate bacon.
- But love anything lemon flavored. I made this lemon cake and it was delicious. Think it's going to be my new hostess gift.
- I'm flying to Detroit tomorrow for a Ford trip - yes, the car company - and I'm ridiculously excited. Not only to drive the cars - but, hello, to be alone. In a hotel room.
- I have become not so secretly addicted to Game of Thrones. I'm currently reading the fourth book.
- I'm double jointed in my elbows and fingers.
- My hair is a difficult to describe reddish brown. When Emma colored a card for Mother's Day, she told me that she tried to color red over top of the brown - and on the card, I ended up with purple. When I'm out in the sun a lot, the red really comes out, and every time I get it colored, I'm trying to fight the red.
- I'm probably the least emotional person that there is on dry land.
Did any of these surprise you?
Why not make a list all about you on your blog and leave a link in the comments?

The least emotional part did yes. And I don't know why. Must make lemon cake after drying out the basement ... again.....

You have a pair of Ramones Converse? I'm so, so jealous. I have The Who, the Doors, and Pink Floyd, but I'd give them all away in a heartbeat for the Ramones!

Number one-good golly YES! I've been blogging for over five years now and never know what to say and end up reciting my day. How boring could I get for anyone reading it!
The last one on your list really surprised me. I don't think that part is true, at least from reading here for the past few years.

I thought I was the only one who looked forward to hotel rooms on trips! Especially alone time in hotel rooms! I'm going to Chicago for the weekend in July to meet girlfriends from high school and I am seriously considering a hotel stay near the airport the night before just to have one night of peace and quiet to myself. Excited for your trip to Ford Carmen!
I like your list. I think it's a good exercise to remind yourself what you're into and what you're all about. As mothers, it's so easy to lose track of who we are.

I'm on the 2nd book of Game of Thrones after your recommendation the other week. It's my second time through, and I'm definitely enjoying it much more this time around.

Purple hair? can be a good thing too. I've been blogging now for 6yrs ish and I also know not what to say, some days my page is just blank... and then I'm all blankity blank blank what will I do here?

I enjoyed reading those! I must say I agree with your husband about the sidewalk chalk. However, I do understand the need for a creative outlet!
Enjoy your stay in the hotel--alone!! :)
