This weekend I am finishing up Behind the Beautiful Forevers (non-fction) and Mr. Penumbra's 24 hour Bookstore (fiction). Both are excellent, but very different. They are due on Sunday at the library, then I am going to begin The Middlesteins and Shine, Shine, Shine - both of which I have good things about. I too loved Crooked Letter. Last really great read was The Round House by Erdich and also thought Gold by Chris Cleaves was pretty good. Oh, and Where You'd Go Bernadette - excellent. Quirky, fun, moving - all around good read.

I've challenged myself to read at least 100 books this year, so I'm trying to make time every day to read, too (which is hard when you have two toddlers at home and work outside of the house twice a week). I've not done as much reading this month as I would have liked, but I'm working on it. This month I read No Ordinary Time by Doris Kearns Goodwin and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom by August Wilson (a play, and a re-read). I enjoyed both.

So funny, I just downloaded about 6 samples on my Nook. Recently read One More Day, a love story about a couple on the same day over 15 yrs or so. It was pretty good, predictable, good weekend read. Another recent one is Britannia Road, WWII era, different perspective of family seperated during the war and their struggles to survive and struggles to become a couple/family again when reunited. Main Street Vegan was good if you have any interest in that, lots of ways to lean into the lifestyle. I will let you know about the nes I downloaded tonight.

Oh happy day!
It’s rainy here, the family is watching a Fringe dvd marathon and the crockpot is bubbling!
Hope this finds you having an awesome day too!

Lately the only thing I have been reading is the inside of my eyelids. ... I enjoyed When It Happens To You and couldn't make it thru Digital Fortress. maybe if I sleep more I can read more? Maybe?

The only one on your list that I've read is Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter. I have to agree with you, excellent book! One book that I've read recently is The Devil in Pew Number 7 by Rebecca Nichols Alonzo. A true story, I couldn't put it down. Another one I'd recommend is Golden Lies by Barbara Freethy. I could not figure out who did it until it was revealed. Love that it kept me guessing.

About Me

  • Carmen Staicer is a whirlwind of energy and execution, who never sleeps and drinks way too much coffee. She works from home as the Programs Manager for BlogHer, and is the mom to six kids, most of whom play instruments, sing or dance and all of whom are much smarter than she will ever be. In other words, her house is never ever quiet or still. A concentration of food allergies, spectrum disorders and learning disabilities means that she spends an awful lot of time second guessing herself and Dr. Googling, as well as learning to cook everything the family might like to eat. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, boxing (she has her Black Belt in Muay Thai), sleeping, exploring coffee shops, photography, ballet class and cooking. She excels in being a smart mouth and has her major in sarcasm, with a minor in BS studies.
