1 - A good friend of ours had a brain aneurysm today and isn't expected to make it - and he was a heavy, heavy smoker and drinker. It was said that both contributed mightily to the aneurysm. (Yes, I know that these things happen to young and healthy people who have never smoked - did, as a matter of fact, happen to a non smoking, running every day neighbor, but the odds are most certainly not in your favor. Please, please - take care of yourself. )
2 - I attempted to compliment someone who had a gorgeous singing voice yesterday. Not only did she act as if I was a peon below her, not even thanking me for the compliment, but instead answering with, "Of course", she then proceeded to rudely dismiss my mention of my daughter (also in opera school) and even worse, disparaged my daughter's teachers - who I think are FANTASTIC and have done a tremendous job with my daughter - and this entire scenario, besides making me feel like total shit -
was a lesson to me in how not to act and another area of instruction for my musically gifted children. I hate it when people make other people feel stupid.
3 - Christmas is coming, and I'm going to try to do a few more sponsored posts here. I really try, as much as I can, to accept things that will be cool prizes for you - there's a Keurig coffee machine, a $100 visa gift card, and new headphones. I've been told that these posts are off putting - I'm sorry. I really try hard to write them in my same mouthy and rambling style and bring you a great opportunity. But. Christmas is coming, yo.
WINTER IS COMING, LANNISTERS. WINTER IS COMING, JON STARK.
4 - So, my son, the one with the microfracture? Now I was told that he DOESN'T have a microfracture - but he does have pain still. Ai-yi-yi.
5 - Sometimes, when it all gets to be just too, too much, I've been known, once or twice - to self medicate with carbs - or chocolate pudding. I made this tonight.
It was beautiful. And super yummy - And, the best part?
My new dishwasher was installed today - the third one in ten years, we now have a Bosch and it better last longer than the LG they carted away today - and so I can avoid handwashing the dishes that ten people make in a day, the way that I've done for three weeks now.
It's the little things.
Or, in this case, the things that cost more THAN MY FIRST CAR.
Chocolate pudding recipe:
Separate four eggs. In a mixing bowl, combine the egg yellows, 3/4 cup sugar, 1/4 flour and 3 T cornstarch. Mix in 1-3 T cream (or milk) and make a smooth paste. MAKE SURE IT'S SMOOTH. Scald 2.5 cups of milk over med-high heat. When little bubbles begin to form, turn heat to low and slowly pour the egg mixture in ribbons over the milk, stirring all the while (I use a whisk). When it's completely combined, stir more aggressively until the pudding begins to thicken. Stir in 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate (switch to a large plastic spoon at this time), and when that has melted, stir in 5-7 ounces of milk chocolate (or dark, or mix - whatever, I don't judge). Stir over low heat until it's all melted. Remove from heat, allow to sit for two minutes, and stir in 4 ounces white chocolate. Cool and eat - or eat warm, right out of the pan.
