We are big-time Panera customers - breakfast consumers. Almost every Sunday, you can find either my husband or myself in our local Panera, trying to get just the right mix of bagels for breakfast. Usually it involves a frantic text conversation - Don't forget the Chocolate Chip and the Asiago Cheese - oh! If they have Cherry Vanilla those are the BEST. Usually, I try to sneak a soufflé in there for myself as well.
So you could totally posit that breakfast + Panera = great enjoyment for us.
I have been known to sneak out of work and go grab lunch at Panera. My personal favorite? The always delicious Mac & Cheese plus Creamy Tomato Soup combo. That Mac & Cheese is like crack to me. I will be there probably once a week – don't tell my husband – and part of the reason is because it feels like home there. The food is delicious, the Wi-Fi speedy, the chairs comfy, and the people friendly.
Wait, strike that – the people aren't always friendly at home, so maybe I'm better off at Panera most days.
My husband has never eaten lunch at Panera. In fact, when I asked him if he wanted to join me, he didn't even know that they offered lunch. So when the opportunity came, I snapped it up – with visions of Mac & Cheese flirting with my sanity, I planned our lunch for the next day. Waiting in line, though, I saw the signs for the new Chicken Sorrentina Pasta, and changed my mind. I would get that, along with tomato soup. My husband elected to get the Napa Almond Chicken Salad Sandwich.
We rarely eat out without at least two minions with us, and very often all six. Eating together with a big family is many things, but it is not restful, relaxing, or romantic, so it was nice to have the opportunity to get out and enjoy a meal together. He happily dug into the chicken sandwich, pronouncing it delicious, while I started on my favorite, the Creamy Tomato Soup. I tried the pasta, and it was good, but a little spicy for me. This isn't the fault of the recipe, but of my own picky palate. I generally tend to eat things that are blander, because I have the stomach of a finicky 2 year old. My husband graciously offered to try it and he ended up eating the entire thing. (He saved the rest of his sandwich for dinner that night.)
Way to take one for the team, hubby.
Both of our meals were generously sized, well spiced, and just exactly the right temperature. One of the many things I love about Panera: I've never had a meal that was not perfect. I know that anytime I'm craving a bowl of cheesy goodness, I can drop right into Panera and walk out with a bowl of mac & cheese that feels like a giant hug.
I made this short little movie featuring our lunch time fun - check it out and see how we ended our lunch - with, arguably, the best food Panera offers and the one to which I have zero resistance - cookies!
