Equality in Washing

One of the worst parts of a big family is the amount of laundry that it generates. Every time I turn around, it seems that the laundry baskets are full and the washer is running, running, running. As soon as a load finishes, I toss it into the dryer, lean over and grab another.

And, um, I can personally attest to the fact that the machines are very strong, as last week, I leaned over to toss a load of wash in and stood up - and slammed my head into the open detergent drawer. The front of the drawer popped off and the blood spilled from my head - but the machine was easily repaired. Not so my poor head. Owie, ow, ow.

But the trouble comes when you do more than one load, because usually, the washer takes longer, or the dryer takes longer, and then the next thing you know, the wet wash is stacked up and sitting around, and then it's bedtime and you don't have the wash finished.

Ahem.

But the new Frigidaire Affinity has TimeWise, a feature that allows the machines to finish a wash cycle at the SAME TIME as a dry cycle - so the loads finish at once. It's like a mind meld or a telepathy or something. It's kind of spooky.

It can't DO the wash for you - but it's the next closet thing.

The Gasket That Rocks

Before I had the Frigidaire Affinity washing machine, I owned a Maytag Neptune. It was a great machine. It was an awesome machine - except for one teeny, tiny, SMELLY problem. The gasket that sealed the machine had a flaw and it grew mold.

And when I say that it grew mold, it REALLY grew mold. It was the most stubborn, longest lasting, disgusting mold that I've ever seen. I had the gasket replaced at one point, and I followed all of the instructions that the repair person gave me - I did a load of bleach clothes every few days, I left the door open every night, I wiped the gasket down.

i BABIED that sucker. And still, the mold came back.

I tried scrubbing the gasket with brillo, laying bleach cloths directly on it, and even used a Magic Eraser.

And still, the mold came back.

The Frigidaire Affinity has the Stay FreshAntimicrobial Door Seal, which means that it won't grow mold. Ever. Period. End of discussion. Except that, you know, I really didn't believe it - but it's true. I've had the machine for more than six months and there is not one speck of mold anywhere in the machine.

It's awesome. It's like a dream come true - not only does the machine get the CLOTHES clean - but the machine STAYS clean.

It's a win-win situation.

Whitest Whites

I love the crispness of white bedding. I don't buy it for my kids, who could get straight out of a tub and get dirty, but I am the proud owner of 1000 count sumptous white sheets and pillow cases.

I also have a (faux) down comforter, great pillows and blackout curtains on my bed. I take sleeping SERIOUSLY, y'all. Probably because I don't get nearly enough of it.

I'm serious about keeping those sheets in pristine shape. I pamper those babies like nobody's business, because there is nothing in the world like sliding into a fresh, clean bed with the sheets pulled nice and tight. I've been concerned, however, that those sheets might lose their whiteness. Dingy white sheets just don't have the same appeal, know what I mean?

I was glad to see that the Frigidaire Affinity Washing machine has a cycle called Whitest Whites. From the owners manual: The Whitest Whites cycle provides 15 minutes of tumble wash action followed by two rinses. Use this cycle to clean soiled white fabrics with the addition of bleach. Hot water is recommended to ensure optimal bleach activation.

I have been very pleased to see that weekly washing of my beautiful white sheets, with a bit of bleach added, on the Whitest Whites cycle, has kept those sheets in mint condition. I had never heard of a Whitest Whites Setting, and was honestly a little bit skeptical - but seeing it in action has convinced me.

Now my beautiful bed is calling my name. ZZZZZzzzzzz....

 

Summer = Towels

This post is part of my participation in the Mom Central/Frigidaire Test Drive Team, in which I was given a Frigidaire washer and dryer to test at my house. The opinions expressed her are all my own.

it's summertime, and the living is easy.

Yes, right?

We spend a lot of time participating in various water activities in the summer, so theoretically, it's relaxing and stressfree and yadda, yadda.

You've never been to the beach with my kids, obviously.

The worst part of the beach or pool or water park is the TOWELS situation. My kids seem to think that once a towel touches their body, it's contaminated. Must go into the washing machine STRAIGHT AWAY. No matter how many times I say it, no matter how many times I YELL it, the towels still get tossed into the wash. And towels are big and take up lots of room in a machine - especially towels for 6 kids. Plus a sheet that we sit on, plus bathing suits and you know that I am spending a lot of time in the laundry room.

Thank goodness the Frigidaire Washer has a jumbo capacity. I've put as many as 20 towels in at once.

It's a very good thing that we have this washing machine. it saves me from being chained to the machine to wash (almost clean) towels all day long.

P.S. - Here's the sign that I have in all of the bathrooms in my house.

Frigidaire Test Drive - Team Washer/Dryer!

I was beyond DELIGHTED when I opened my email a few months ago and read that I'd been selected to be added to Mom Central and Frigidaire's Test Drive Team.

What the HECK is the Test Drive Team?

Frigidaire has selected a group of women to test drive their newest appliances - microwaves, dishwashers, refrigerators, and washer/dryer sets. In what I think is the MOST fitting pairing ever, I've been selected to receive a washer and dryer. (I'm betting that the 20 loads of wash a week have something to do with that.)

I'll be blogging about my use of the washer/dryer set over the next several months - I won't be receiving my set for a month or so, but  I'll be sharing my real life experience and usage, people. Plus, I will keep you up-to-date on other must-know Frigidaire Info.
