Is it of the devil or the greatest invention ever?
I think the former, but it was brought to my attention this past week whilst away that many people LIKE the stuff and feel like it is not at all bad for you.
Well, way to get MY dander up. I planned to write a wonderful post about it.
But, THEN, I got sick AGAIN. Seriously, WTH, body?
So, in the absence of my words of wisdom, Julie has done an amazing set of posts about the dangers of HFCS. I'd implore all of you to go and read it. Part one is here, Part two is here, Part three here, and Part four here, with more to come in the future.
Read it. I promise you will be riveted and informed.

I once lived in a hellhole...erm...town where there was a corn syrup processing plant. If there is a smell worse than corn being made into HFCS, I can only assume there's eternal damnation involved. It's that bad. It's so hard to eliminate HFCS from a diet these days; it's in EVERYTHING. Yet I try, and am getting more and more successful. If HFCS is in there, it doesn't come home with me. It means my grocery bill is higher, but I'm ok with that. You end up paying in the long run I figure. :)

I cannot stand those commercials put out by the corn refiners. I wish they would go away.

Have you seen the recent studies showing that there's trace amounts of mercury in the corn syrup?
Yeah. Check it out.

I haven't been convinced so much whether it's harmful or not, but in many ways it is a good proxy for food that I'd otherwise want to avoid--too processed, too much sugar in general, not environmentally friendly--helps simplify the grocery shopping when there are entire aisles one doesn't bother going in!

I read the 4 parts, but my poor eyes glossed over, and I had to catch my self. I need to read more with less science.

I saw the commercials. Big PR work to combat the public opinion. Did not know about the report of mercury. Thanks for link. God bless and good health to all.

If you've ever seen a graph of the incidence of diabetes and the use of HFCS, you'd be amazed. If you overlay the two, they almost match. The stuff is poison, despite what the corn growers lobby will tell you. Thankfully there are alternatives and foods without it starting to appear on our shelves. Our local market has at least 3 brands of bread now that have none opf that crap in there.

Am I missing something? When I try the links I get the blog but nothing about HFCS.
