You know what is the absolute worst thing for me? When I spend an
hour or more on cardio - seriously, pre Boot, that was easy to do - and
then blow it in one glorious meal. One gourmet coffee can be 500 (or
more!) calories. Kind of offsets the entire workout, doesn't it? So,
there are things you can do tocut your calories pretty painlessly.
- split a bagel from Panera - seriously, those things are HUGE - with a coworker. Enjoy it with a fruit salad.
- Don't use mayonnaise - I know, I know, you've heard it before. Some brands have more than 100 calories PER TEASPOON, and often I'd use 2-3 teaspoons per sandwich. Instead, try mustard.
- On the salad bar, skip any thing mayo based, any bread products, and all the dressing. Load up on fresh veggies and fruits.
- Drain the heavy syrup off of canned fruit and then rinse it before you eat it.
- Lay in a supply of sugar free jello cups, Skinny cow ice cream bars and Fudgsicles. That way, you have a treat when you are desperate, and you won't blow it.
What's your best weight loss secret?

What works well for me is to have a pretty decent breakfast - healthy, low carbs, high protein - and then I tend to eat less during the day. A big breakfast also gets your metabolism going early in the day, so your body is better able to digest what you eat during the day.
I love omlettes with peppers and mushrooms and believe it or not I can rustle one up within a couple of minutes tops - so they're pretty quick too. I usually chop up the peppers mushrooms the night before to save time in the morning.

I second the sugar free jello idea... delicious, and 0 calories. Top it with some low calorie cool-whip, and you have an extremely tasty snack. Just be aware that even though it has nearly no calories, it can still spike your insulin levels (so don't take in a bunch of fats right after!)

Hi again. These are good tips. I've been dancing with Weight Watchers since Nov. So far I have lost 28 pounds; only 8 more to lose to reach my ultimate goal. I'll let you know when I get there.
I sorta blew it last night. I made the most delicious Wilted Spinach Salad in the history of mankind! I'm telling you: it was great! Had a nutty flavor that surprised us. Yes, I used fried bacon and bacon-oil. But nothing else. Only nice fresh raw spinach and the just-cooked bacon bits. A little bit of diced egg whites, too.
But I've given up on Mayo.

Planning meals works for me. If I crave something its usually a response to an emotional trigger so I write it down in the ideas for next weeks menu. By the time I actually create the menu for the following week the craving will have passed and I realize I don't really want/need that food.
Another thing with rinsing foods...canned beans! Many are packed in high fructose corn syrup, I pour them in a colander and rinse them and then let them sit in cold water for a few minutes to rinse as much away as possible.

I agree with Scale Junkie, meal planning is really important for weight control, but it's something I'm not very good at... I do try however to have plenty of things around for healthy snacks/mini meals throughout the day. One of my favorite snacks/mini meals is fresh veggies (carrots, tomatoes, bell peppers, mushrooms, radishes, etc.) and eat them with a dip that consists of fat free Greek-style yogurt that I mix with lemon juice, salt, pepper and herbs (usually chives.) This snack/meal is low in fat, high in protein and very satisfying.

Planning the meals that fit your diet and help you reach your weight loss goal is the smart way to do things. But I have a hard time keeping it up. Thank you for the good information.
