Well, duh. Despite the fact that I can't afford him - and I haven't been able to for quite a while. In fact, in order to offset the cost, we gave him our elliptical machine in exchange for training sessions about a year ago. But I used his services much less over the summer because the kids were home and it was just too much to leave them. So I had plans to be there most of the mornings after I dropped the kids off - but for various reasons, it's just not working out. I'm not getting the results that I look for and I'm growing both more annoyed with the situation there and frustrated by all of it.
So I've decided to try to do it myself.
I know. Inside, I know that I can do it.
Outside, it might be another thought. I know that I get busy, get distracted, find many other things to do that are more enjoyable that lifting weights. But the funny thing is that I really like lifting weights. Once I finally get started.
So I'm giving myself the months of Sept and Oct. I'm interested to see if I keep up with my weight work or if my arms lose the tone that they have. I'm still taking muay thai class and I'll go back to capoeira when my piriformis muscle allows me to lift my leg above knee level.
It's an experiment.

My trainer is a book :) It's very simple, which is good for me. I like "Five Factor Fitness" although a lot of people love "New Weight Lifting Rules for Women." Good luck!

I strongly recommend The New Rules of Lifting for Women if you haven't yet read it. Also, stumptuous.com. Both are excellent resources for starting to lift weights. I've made some good progress and never had a trainer.

I believe you can do it too.

I like My Fitness Coach on Wii. Granted I haven't used it all summer but that is because I can run every day. Once winter hits, I'm going back to it. You can pick what you want to concentrate on and you tell it what equipment you have (weights, balance ball, step)

I can't give you any advice as I still have to lose 30 pounds; the same 30 I have needed to lose for a while now. But, I have several friends and family members who are doing it on their own for a variety of reasons, and they have been pretty successful. There are some good suggestions above, and I have faith in you to get it done. Good luck!

Hi there!
Not going to get my Sunday night 'check in' done just yet, but just wanted to comment on your post. I also left my trainer and AM doing it myself, although it's been all walking/running/stairs/pushups so far...I have these 'Jari Love' tapes that are so very similar to everything I did at the trainers...until the snow flies, I am on my own! You can do it! I am finding first thing in the morning is the way to go ;-) I had a great week, by the way, more later!

There sure are a lot of big, new words in that last sentence. Whew! But I wish you well. I lost my weight without any help besides WW. Almost all my exercise came from walking (100 miles a month). I often relieved the repetition of it with my camera. So I sorta participated in two 'hobbies' at the same time. I recommend something like that. Anyway, I agree with you: "I know [you] can do it." The best to you.

you have a wii right? I LOVE this:

I also love the fitness trainer game for Yoga, I do that about twice a week. I ONLY work out at home. Treadmill time too.
