I bought a new bed shortly before I remarried; I wanted to wait until after we'd gotten married and I'd made the 1,000 mile relocation move, but my current bed was 20+ years old and horribly uncomfortable. So I picked out a bed---on my own, as my husband was 1,000 miles away---and I loved it. So comfy! Heaven!! I loved that bed so much.

Then we got married, I moved, and suddenly we were living together. Well. Turns out that my dream bed was perfect for me, but could not withstand the weight of my husband (nearly twice my size). The mattress began to sag and warp almost immediately, and flipping it only meant I was left to sleep in the crater he'd created. We joke that if I want to snuggle with him I have to "roll down the hill" to his side.

It's awful, but it's been almost 5 years and there's always something else that we need to be spending money on, and so the bed remains the last priority. My husband would be SO SO HAPPY if we got a new bed. And I would be SO SO SO happy that he would be more amenable to snuggling if it wouldn't mean I'd have to roll into him. Heh.

I would LOVE this bed. But I can’t make videos – and I’m not terribly creative in my writing, so I’m just gonna shoot from the hip on this.
Ooooo. Maybe I’ll bullet list this.
• My Body – When I had my first kid, now 11, most of his time “on the inside” was spent on my sciatic nerve. My body did all kinds of things to adjust for it, and it hasn’t been right since. I have a particularly bad lower back, and very bad hips (they will randomly pop out of joint), all as a result of that one pregnancy. I never recovered in that aspect. And I had something as a kid called Osgood–Schlatter disease in both knees, which didn’t resolve as an adult, which is rather painful at times.
• My Wallet – My husband and I have been married over 13 years. We have never, ever had a new mattress. Every single mattress we’ve ever had has been a hand-me-down with one of those plain metal bases. We’re poor – always have been. I don’t, in actuality, know what a new mattress feels like. In fact, on my side of the bed, I fall into this… divot? Depression? What-have-you that my 6’, 250lb father left in this particular mattress, which was probably owned 15-20 years by my parents before they bought a new one. I’d really love to have something new that hasn’t been… baptized previously.
• My Husband – My husband sleeps days, and works nights. He works very hard. His body has been through a lot, and I’d love to see him sleep on something he can adjust. Bad knees, bad back, and a previous head injury means a bad night’s (well, day’s) sleep can ruin his work night. Plus, ahem, I’ve been informed that I snore. Rather like a freight train. So, for those two precious nights a week we sleep at the same time, if that elevation trick can work, I’m sure he’d appreciate it. Although I’m still not sure he’s not lying about that part. He did record me on video once, but I throw that evidence out as I was pregnant at the time. Hmph.

Rachel - A Southern Fairytale

My poor husband's schedule is never the same, sleep pattern? What's that? It appears he may also have restless leg syndrome. This man works his tail off so that I can be a stay at home - in the school - mom. Yet, I don't know the last time that he actually had a good night's sleep.

He is the guy that will go to the bed store and will lay on this bed and dream about it, and come home and tell me all about it, but understands that it isn't in our realm right now. He wants one.
My husband sacrifices so much for our family - works his tail off, and is an amazing man who's the example of the kind of man I want my daughter to know and love someday, and he's showing our son what it is to be a gentleman, a husband a friend and a father.

I would love to win this for him.

I still have the full bed that my parents gave me when I was in undergrad. Nearly 20 years later, it's still in decent shape and I can make do when it's just me but... when my long distance love is visiting there's simply not enough room for the both of us. Plus he snores... I mean REALLY snores... so I can pretty much use all the help I can get!

OMG!! Do I ever need this bed. I have a problem sleeping, but then again I am 50. But besides that point, I am currently sleeping on a 20 year old mattress that IS NOT COMFORTABLE. Not only am I sleeping on an old crappy mattress it is located in my childhood bedroom because I moved back to this house to help my 92 year old grandma. I thought it was a temporary place to stay while I was divorcing my ex-husband who stayed in our house (just one street away). I told my ex in June (when I came to my grandma's) he could live there until January and I would keep him on my insurance then he would move in with his grown children (not mine) however they are druggies so he moved back into our house. I've been making the mortgage payments for the last 3 1/2 years without living there. He is on disability and doesn't receive much income because he was in a band and never paid income tax. (Note to parents, strongly discourage your child marrying a muscian unless he is already famous) I lost my job after 24 years last December (thank you Clear Channel Radio) due to cutbacks. Not only is my bed uncomfortable my great aunt died on the very same mattress. Yuck.. Anyway I have always wanted a Tempur Pedic, I have longed for one for many years. I would be so thankful for this bed, I can't even put into words how happy this would make me. Pick me! Pick me! Thanks Carmen I love your blog and will still be devoted even if I don't win the bed. :)

When we married, my husband had a waterbed. I loathe waterbeds. It finally broke and we bought a cheap mattress set. That was broke down in about 3 months. Then we moved 1200 miles to my childhood hometown, leaving that old, broken mattress set behind. When we arrived, we inherited the bed I had before I moved away & married. A full size bed, for two more than full size people.
Finally, a couple of years later, we invested in a queen size set that we are STILL sleeping on. Everyday I wake up with a new ache and I'm pretty sure it's the bed's fault! I desperately want this bed!!!

In 1996 when my husband and I married, we bought our first bed. We're still using that same bed. And I must say, it's showing its age. The cover is worn thin in the areas where we tend to gravitate. Then about 2 years ago I was diagnosed with chronic acid reflux. I've been sleeping on one of those wedges to keep my head elevated. The thing is the darn wedge is very narrow and I have to move "just so" to make sure I don't fall off when I roll from one side to the other. This incline feature would be so awesome because it takes up half of the bed! Woohoo!

Amy

Once upon a time, we all slept on the ground. Then we figured out that if we collected bits of fuzz and soft grass, we could make a better place to sleep, and so it was. Then woman,(just taking a wild leap here)in her wisdom, saw that feathers could be gathered together and sewn into a bag of cloth, and voila, the first "real" bed was born. Many millenia later, wealthy people figured out that one could actually create something lasting and relatively more comfortable on which to lay one's head, and voila, the modern bed was fashioned. But until the Split King TempurPedic Mattress was brought into being, with the Ergo Adjustable Base, only Kings and Queens could afford to imagine what Heaven must be like. I would love to have that bit of heaven to share with my spouse just to ensure that we stay married through the next oh many years!

TOP 5 REASONS I NEED A TEMPUR-PEDIC BED

5. I have a husband, 4 kids, 3 cats, and a dog, and we are planning on adding a few more children in there somewhere. I need good sleep to make it through the day with my sanity mostly intact. Or you know, a big bed where I can bribe them with Spongebob while I nap.

4. The money we could save on anti-snore gear could fund my children's college educations.

3. My husband works out of town for weeks at a time. I am not too proud to admit my nightly single-lady routine consists of a half-hour of HGTV and Bejeweled Blitz, in bed, before I get my beauty sleep. I'm sure with an awesome, ergonomic bed, I could kick all my Facebook friends' butts at Bejeweled Blitz AND Words With Friends.

2. While my current bed is the best bed I have ever owned, it has been with me for approximately one quarter of my life. That's a lot of life.

1. Did I mention my husband's snoring? Or the fact that we have our own system down where I elbow him every 2.3 seconds, which then signals him to roll over to his other side, thus stopping the snoring. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Why do I need a new bed? First because the old one is full of husband, and two boxer dogs. The dogs sprawl and the husband has NINE pillows for all of his aches and pains. (I did get a used twin bed for the boxer dogs, but hubby still lets the old guy come up beside him and snuggle. So, I get pushed to the edge on the right side.) Some nights I just want to sleep on the couch.

Second because I have been told that I stop breathing at night (sleep apnea) and the wedgie pillows aren’t helping enough.

Third because now the sleep problems seem to making eye problems. I had a bubble on my eye, got it removed, but it still wells up by the scar tissue when I don’t get enough sleep (or oxygen) at night.

I wake up with a stiff back and neck every morning and wonder if I will ever get another good night’s rest. I remember what it was like to spread out and be comfortable. But I’m 52 now and it seems like it has been years since I had the luxury of a good night’s sleep.

It would be fantastic to wake up rested and relaxed instead of achy and exhausted. Please pick me!

‘Twas the middle of the night, in the wee hours of the morning.
The only creature stirring was my tossing and turning.
My arms full of needle pricks, I’d flip this way and toss that,
A kink in my shoulder, a crick in my neck,
Just as I finally drifted off, my husband began his nightly snoring: what a ruckus!
Then sounding more like a pig than a pug, Missy would join the nightly chorus.
When finally I awoke after having slept very little,
It was to the words, “your tossing and turning have kept me awake!”
So if Santa should bring me this new bed I dream of
It would certainly make our nights much more peaceful
And begin our mornings much more loving and kind!

I'll be honest we have a bed now, well physically it feels like a piece of rock laid over a sheet of card board. After long days of work and training I find myself making excuses to my wife to try and sleep on my beat up couch because it feels like wood, instead of rock the softer the better if you ask me. Occasionally I have to make up a creative argument so she could MAKE me sleep in the living room. You know the saying where people get stuck between a rock and a hard place, well the rock is my bed the hard place is my wall so I go through this every night if me and my wife are on good terms, which lately is everyday I mean come on one argument wouldn't kill you please I WANT THE COUCH! This is only one aspect of why I need a new bed but let's move on it is good to get that off my chest cause i haven't told a soul about my sleeping problems. The other reason is after a long hard day of getting my butt kicked by 200 pound men thinking I'm there size because my technique is better, I would love to heal on something soft not get beat up again in my sleep by Bully the Bed. I won't throw anything in your face like beds are expensive I can't afford to buy one like this but I cannn drop suddle hints;p. Another reason is for my wife's safety, I am an aspiring UFC fighter so i tend to live breath and eat martial arts techniques even in our queen sized rock at night. Just the other day my wife and I were sleeping well I was sleeping she was bombarded with a jab, cross, lead elbow, now that I think about it that might be the kids advanced combo, ooops. Well i woke up with her eyes locked on me, like a gorilla seeing a banana for the first time of course I had no idea what transpired I was asleep its not my fault I am passionate about my dreams. I thought she was going to dig a hole in the backyard for me. To be honest I really do need and want the bed but I would love it if I made you cry from laughing this is the first thing I have written in a long time so excuse my crummy grammar. P.S. I don't beat my wife I can't help that passion follows me to sleep in a queen rock I'm a tall man. Please save this women I'm gearing up for a proffessional debut and if we don't get some space I don't think she'll make it through another one of my dreams

Oh, goodness, do we need a new bed! Which may sound odd since we recently bought a new bed this past April. We spent almost two weeks traveling to various stores and laying on beds trying to find a new mattress that felt as good as the previous bed when we first bought it. Our budget prevented us from affording the type of bed we really wanted, so we had to settle with a bed that we thought would work for the both of us. (We have two kids and I stay home to homeschool them leaving us with one income. So big purchases are carefully weighed and thought through.) The bed we bought is already sagging on either side, so much so that when my husband leaves for work in the morning I immediately try and find the hump right in the middle of the bed for the hour or so before I have to wake up and wake our children to find some type of comfort or relief from the back pain caused by the deep sag on either side of the bed from where we each sleep. This bed is hurting my back so badly that I can't bend over for the first hour or two after waking up, and for someone who exercises six out of seven days the constant pain is wearing me down. We’ve tried turning the bed, since it’s a “no flip” type, it just doesn’t provide any sort of relief. I would love to one day to wake up and not be in some type of pain. I woke recently to a pinched nerve in my neck and couldn’t take a deep breath. Because of that I ended up with fluid in my lungs and in pain for a week and on pain medication. Nice. Now add in the fact that my husband snores and has snored for the past eighteen years we've been married and I'm giving serious thought to either rolling his fanny in the floor the next time he wakes me up, since he usually falls asleep before me-keeping me awake, or I'm grabbing a pillow and shoving it over his face. I don't want to hurt him, I just want the snoring to stop! He's tried the breathe right strips, allergy medications (in case of inflamed nasal passages), stacking his pillows in all kinds of weird manner, sleeping on one of his sides or the other and rarely do we get lucky and he doesn't snore. Snoring doesn’t sound so bad, right? Wrong, or rather wrong for me since I’m a light sleeper. So light in fact that the slightest noise wakes me during the night. Now think about sleeping with a snorer. So, please, for my sanity and a chance at a pain free body and to save my husband the same (because eventually I WILL roll him out of bed onto the floor) I would love the chance to sleep a full night, waking rested and not in so much pain that I can’t bend over without wanting to cry.

I just read all of these entries, and some of them are terribly good! A lot of people are so deserving of this bed, and I thought I was equally deserving, just at a different time in my life. I'm an 18 year old nursing student, paying for a full-time school schedule by myself and working 20-30 hours a week. I am never home unless doing homework, studying or sleeping. I accomplish this on my bed; I have always been like that. When I read your blog and twitter posts, I thought about this mattress I've had since I can remember. In fact, this bed was given to me, used, by my first babysitter. So, this broken-springed bed is at least 25 years old! I used to think using literally seven pillows on my twin sized mattress would make me comfortable enough, and these days it's not happening. I wake up with chronic hip pain, to the point where I limp at work. I have to move in with my boyfriend of 2.5 years soon, and him having no decent bed either...well, I have no idea how we'll afford my dream bed, a tempur pedic. This would make both of our worlds, as he has an early case of degenerative disc disease, which requires a bed where his back can relax. I could live without hip and various other pains, and get great sleep when I have the chance. My boyfriend could live without back pain. We could both save precious money we need for college. Starting our lives together with this long-lasting and fantastic bed would make one of the most stressful parts of our lives that much better! Those are the biggest points and attractions I have for this bed, for which I have wanted since I saw it advertised for the first time probably ten years ago. Thanks for reading, it means a lot.

Stacey B.

If I were chosen, the bed would not be for me, although I would love it, but for my 10 year old DD (my #4 of 7). She has been having horrific leg cramps at night for the past couple of years. Not every night, but when they do come they pretty much take over the entire night. Morning body aches are becoming a common occurance. The word is that she will soon be given the diagnosis of juvenile arthritis. This was told to me by our pediatrician. I guess the pediatric rheumatalogist didn't want to 'jump the gun' on the initial visit.

^^ Not a very uplifting story, huh? But if #4 would win, I bet I would see a smile on her face every night as she crawled into bed and a bigger smile when she woke up in the morning.

As I was reading your blog post about your experiences with your new Tempur-Pedic bed, all I could think was....no snoring?!?!? Seriously, you had me at your spouse will.not.snore. Could this really be true? Could I really sleep peacefully in the same bed as my loving, yet snarling, snorting love monkey?

You see, we know the benefits of memory foam. We have one of those off-brand toppers. It is glorious! However, it does absolutely nothing for snoring. To have inches and inches of that sheer name brand comfort AND silent nights would be BLISSFUL.

Sign me up!

*If you are reading this... Happy Birthday, Love Monkey! I didn't mean anything by it. I'm trying to win a new bed...really.

Cindy

I wasn't going to enter to win the bed until I read that your husband stopped snoring. I snore horribly and it drives my husband crazy. He is a light sleeper, so for 21 years I have slept on my left side facing away from him.(I swear it's causing more wrinkles on that side!) If I'm facing him my snoring keeps him awake. He even says I breathe too heavy. I have woken up in the past with him poking me so I will roll over and numerous times he just puts a pillow over my head. You would make my sweetie a very happy man if you could stop my snoring. Thanks for the chance to win!!

-->I could have gotten a degree in sleeping with extra credit given for the full color dreams I have and remember in the morning.
My husband would have failed.
He's a snorer.
He doesn't dream.
He says he's well rested but I have my doubts.

A new bed could alleviate the snoring issues he has and also reduce the number of times I plug his nose in the night so he is forced to blow out of his mouth and stop snoring temporarily so I can fall back asleep.

I'd love to have a new bed! I've never in my life owned a new mattress. My first bed was a hand-me-down from the twins next door, and when the mattress became too uncomfortable to sleep on about 10 years later, I simply slept on the floor. Then I went to college where I went from one overused, saggy dorm bed to another (scholarship required that I live on campus). After college, I moved in with my now-husband and inherited his 10 year old mattress with the big saggy spot in the middle. Now, 5 years and one baby (for now) later, most nights finds me hanging off the edge of the full-size bed while my husband, the cat, and the toddler are all sprawled out across the rest of the bed.

Therese

OK,going to give this essay thing a go! I really, really need a new bed. Every morning, both my husband and I wake up and things hurt! Hips, legs, back, neck...you name it! We have a pillowtop mattress that actually has little canyons in them where each of sleep (maybe the canyons aren't so little ;0). And you can't flip a pillowtop mattress!!!! Hubby wants to wait until he paints our room so we can have an official mattress burning and set up our new bed. I'm so ready for the mattress burning thing NOW! Please, please pick me! I have my matches ready to start the fire :)

I wanted to video my husband sleeping, trust me when I tell you I would win if you saw that video. The man snores, no snoring isn't an accurate description... When I've heard snoring referred to as sawing logs I, incorrectly assumed it was an exaggeration. It's not. He was recently tested for sleep apnea and diagnosed. Try waking up next to your spouse to discover they aren't breathing, fun times. The first step after diagnosis was a mouth guard, and that was ok, until our dogs discovered it and how chewy it is. Next will be the oxygen mask. Have you seen those? I don't believe people can actually sleep in them! They look like torture devices! So here's hoping for a win and that a slight elevation will solve the problem...

Liz

I need that bed because my bedroom is the coldest room in the house. Sometimes 15 degrees colder than the rest of the house. And, yes, I've worked on getting it better insulated, but it's over the garage and far from the furnace and there's only so much we can do. I sleep with flannel sheets, and two (sometimes three) big quilts, but I'm still cold. And I hate using a space heater when I just want to warm _me_. Shiveringly yours, Liz.

Hi, my name is Katie. I am married and a mother of two. I am in desperate need of a new mattress and box springs. The mattress we have is horrible, we would literally be better off sleeping on the floor. My husband has a lot of back problems because of our bed. We are living off of welfare and food stamps. I would love to have a brand new tempur-pedic bed. Thank you for this opportunity! God Bless!

I would love to have a tempur-pedic bed. As I age, I notice more aches from my back in the morning. My older brother has several herniated discs in his back. He bought a Tempur-pedic bed a few years back and he swears by it. Definitely helps him, so surely it would help me!

(Set to the tune of Jingle Bells)
Saggy bed, Saggy bed, saggy bed each night,
I toss and turn, and move and squirm,
and still it doesn't seem ri-ight.
I've gone to the Doctor, Chiropractor and therapy,
and still have daily headaches,
the migraines are here and never disappear,
oh this bed will make it al-right.

On a serious note, I have headaches almost every.single.day. of my life. I have migraines at least once a month and sometimes up to 4 days in a row, maybe even twice a week. It's ridiculous. I am a mom to three gorgeous, loving and kind children who don't need to hear their mommy ask them constantly to, "Please be quieter, Mommy's head hurts soooo bad." I try not to do that but like I said, I have kids. They aren't always the quietest. I wake up in the morning with the headaches and I know it's because of our mattress. I need a miracle to stop the pain and I believe this is it.

Jillbert

I really need this mattress!! Here is my video explaining why:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2KBSdAthS4&feature=youtu.be
Making this video was a family endeavor -- hubby filmed, daughter made the props, and my 13yo even agreed to be in it (he knows I REALLY want this bed!!). The 8 yo just jumped around a lot. To recap the main reasons why I need this bed -- our bed is very small, too small to snuggle our growing kids comfortably in it. It is also falling apart. Stacks of books prop it up from below and this support system is not too reliable. Nothing like having a kid climb in the bed in the middle of the night and the bed crash to the floor. That'll wake you up! And all the sweating, swearing and heaving trying to fix the bed will make sure you can't fall back asleep, too. Also, our bed sags. Sagging bed = bad sleep and a sore back the next day. Here's hoping I'm lucky because winning this would totally make my year.

Sarah Manley

Oh dear Cheezits, do we need a new bed, as evidenced by the fact that I made a terrible video while wearing my footed jammies. I. HAVE. NO. SHAME. http://youtu.be/94JV0mYtZCI

WendyS

Everyone has a reason why they need a new bed. Simply put we need this bed. Ours is about 16 years old and I wake up every.single.day with an aching back. My husband tosses and turns at night which means I toss and turn all night. I also snore. (So I've been told ;-) which is probably why my husband tosses and turns which makes me toss and turn. See the never ending cycle? Oh, and I have 3 kids with busy schedules. A parents needs their sleep. I don't see us replacing it anytime soon either simply because there is always something else that has to be replaced or fixed or paid for. We have yet to get out money tree. (Do you know where we can get one of those?) My husband and I have a way of putting our needs at the bottom of the list. Always. (Isn't that what parents are suppose to do?)

My husband has a degenerative disc in his back and he sleeps in the guestroom a lot of the time because our old mattress hurts his back. I think this little story illustrates why we need this bed.
I have been a lot of places in this world, but my favorite will always be beside you in our bed, our girl down the hall, timing my breathing to match your own, your hand on my bare thigh, your grip loosening as you drift off to sleep. I close my eyes and try to memorize the way each finger feels on my skin. After awhile you ask me what I'm thinking about. I tell you I'm trying to file this away in my memory so I can recall it later: this happiness, your scent, your warmth, the way my heart catches in my throat.

You lean in close, and even in the dark I can tell you are smiling.

You don't have to memorize, you say. I'll refresh your memory every night for the rest of your life, until you know it by heart.

Until you know it by heart. We need this bed so he can keep his word. :-)

The style of the bed is really attractive. This bed is soft and comfortable, I wish I could have a bed like this
