I saw the same special and had the same reaction to Food Lion. (To be fair, for several of the intervening years, I lived in an area where there was no Food Lion, but now I'm back). Maybe it's worth another look after all these years.

I buy some things from WalMart, and meats and produce from Kroger, with an occasional trip to Whole Foods. If I had a Food Lion gift card, I would buy fruit cups, Naked Juice, cereal and ice cream.

I honestly felt like you Carmen, I have avoided Food Lion for several reasons. I have the option to use the base but feel with coupons, Kroger and Harris Teeter are my store. I do think I may need to stop back in to "see" the changes. By the way, Free always sounds better! My mom loves Breyer's - Coffee ;)

When I first moved to this town, the Food Lion was hideous! Went in once and never again. Then my hubby moved up here from Virginia and re-introduced me to Food Lion. They had remodeled and improved their selections all around. We go there to buy traditionally southern foods and ingredients these days. We go there for special sales on meats and soda too!

Despite how well I plan my shopping trips, I always forget stuff. I also often run out of things in between shops and I usually discover this packing lunches at night. There is a Food Lion and a Harris Teeter next to each other. I can't seem to get out of Harris Teeter for less than $50 no.matter.what! I'd love to use the Food Lion for all those last minute lunch box items and see if I can save a little.

I usually do my bulk shopping at Wal-Mart. However, I do use Food Lion for last minute odds and ends because it is convenient. I would use a gift card to 2 for 1 specials, especially afterschool snacks.

I shop at Food Lion AT LEAST twice a week. It's so convenient for me. I would buy fruits and vegetables there.

I'd buy Chobani and Fage yogurt, produce, pasta and perhaps ground beef and chicken - IF it was of the cage-free, grass-fed, "animal had a happy life before it got slaughtered" variety.

I have the same perception of Food Lion, but if the ones near me were renovated, I'd give them a try. I live in Charlottesville, VA, and there are about a million options for buying groceries here. If you're like me, financially tight but want to eat fresh, healthy food and get decent customer service, you do most of your food shopping at Kroger.

My husband is on the road a lot for work and likes to have snacks in the truck to be a bit healthier. I'd use the money to buy easy to pack things like granola bars, canned fruit, etc. for him to take with him.
