In this house, it seems, just about everyone - and that's never happened before. Why is that?
We have a new vacuum - and it's AH-mazing. Seriously. I feel like Hannah Housewife, stereotypical 1950's oppression queen, when I tell you that this new vacuum is revolutionary.
Enter the Shark Ultra Light Upright.
Weighing just 8 pounds, the Shark Rocket™ is designed to equip users with the ability to swiftly transform between an upright and handheld vacuum. The slim, easy-to-use vac delivers Never Loses Suction power and a motorized power head to deep clean carpets better than a full size Dyson vacuum.**
Well, this statement really didn't impress me, because I had a Dyson and it was terrible. I mean, really awful - but I've heard that they are highly praised, so maybe we had a dud. But I do really like the performance of the Oreck we own - which is yet another cringe worthy thought, for who loves a vacuum?
I do like it when the carpets are clean, and 1000 million bonus points if it can be quickly, easily, and by a small human.
We were sent the Shark Ultra Light Upright to try out, and I've got to say that I'm super impressed - as are the other members of my family. It is very lightweight, lays totally flat to go under tables and beds, and cleans in just one pass - which makes the time spent on a room speed by. It can also be converted to a handheld vacuum, which is ideal for cleaning stairs, cars or other small messes, like, say, the time my kiddo dropped a box of Rice Krispies.
This vacuum also has Enhanced Swivel Steering - basically, it can clean in any direction (yay for this, as it keeps the kids easily amused AND cleans in all directions, so no yelling about getting the carpet cleaned - especially helpful when you have a child who likes to make patterns in the carpet!) and a low profile nozzle delivers “go anywhere” versatility.
I also really appreciate the fact that the vacuum easily goes from bare floor - my front entry - to carpet - my great room - and back to bare floor - my kitchen. It's super easy to get the whole lower level done in one pass.
Ok, well, it sounds good, but how well did it clean? Like a dream. And not a nightmare type dream either - the canister filled up in no time at all - in fact, that's my only complaint about this cleaner. The canister is tiny - or maybe we are just dirty people - but we have to dump it after every room. That is actually a good thing, though, as my kids tend to overlook the whole "empty the canister" thing until it gets overpacked - but the canister for this vacuum is mounted right by the handle and is directly in your face, which means it's not going to be overlooked.
Would I recommend this vacuum? Yes. Absolutely. In fact, I'm seriously considering purchasing another one for my upstairs - even though this one is very light and easy to move, I prefer to have a second one upstairs.
That way, there are no excuses for dirty carpet.
I was provided with a vacuum cleaner to facilitate my review. I was not compensated for this review otherwise.
We need a new vacuum (IMHO)...our Oreck works well enough, but I want something easier to use!

I have very little carpet - mostly hardwoods. Wonder if it would work there?
