Recently, I was contacted by a wonderful woman named Meghan, who represents the U.S. Tennis Association’s Jr.
Team Tennis program. She asked if she could send my family tennis racquets, balls and instruction. I was, uh, less than enthused.
My husband ADORES tennis. Loves it and would play often if he could. When we were first married, I tried to play tennis with him, and I HATED it with the fire of 1,000 suns. I was completely unable to hit the ball - the racquet must have had a hole in it. I missed EVERY.SINGLE.BALL. He tried to teach me and I was resistant to being taught, and it was sooo not a good combination. I've avoided it ever since, even though he'd love for me to play with him - he claims it is a great sport. When the offer for the equipment came, I didn't mention it to him, but when the box came on his birthday, there was no way to avoid it. I had to play tennis with him. And you know what?
It wasn't bad. My kids liked it, and I was better than I remembered. The hole in the racquet closed, I guess, because I was able to hit it over the net every time. We are going again. :)
Here are some great pieces of information that Meghan asked me to pass on.
